NFL Kickoff for a Cure II Raises over $2.1 Million On March 14, over 800 guests gathered at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City for Kickoff for a Cure, an evening to benefit Autism Speaks and The Gillen Brewer School. The event was hosted by the NFL. The evening's honorees were Pro Football Hall of Famer Gifford; Jimmy Lee, vice chairman, JP Chase & Co.; Weldon, chairman and CEO of and ; and Zygi Wilf, owner and chairman of the Minnesota Vikings. Spring Walk Now for Autism Season Kicks Off The 2007 Autism Speaks walk season kicked off in Miami on Feb.11, with over 8,000 participants walking in Key Biscayne. The walk marked the first event of the newly combined "Walk Now for Autism" program, following the merger between Cure Autism Now and Autism Speaks. Read more about the 2007 walks. Current Treatment Research Funding Exceeds $9 Million From 2005 to 2007, Autism Speaks, NAAR and CAN committed $9.1 million to treatment research grants. This funding includes pharmacological, medical, and behavioral intervention research as well as studies into new technologies and better tools for intervention and treatment. The "Rock Autism" campaign will kick off with a music star-studded public service announcement to mark the start of Autism Awareness Month, and will also include news segments on the cable channel and fundraising programs that will benefit Autism Speaks. Toys 'R' Us Launches In-Store Campaign On March 18, Toys “R” Us and the Toys “R” Us Children's Fund will kick off a nationwide fundraising campaign to benefit Autism Speaks. Through May 4, all 586 Toys “R” Us stores across the country will accept cash donations to support Autism Speaks in its efforts to help solve the puzzle of autism, and online shoppers will be able to contribute via the web.
