Guest guest Posted May 24, 2004 Report Share Posted May 24, 2004 ROFL ! you are too funny! on quite a roll lately I just love reading your rantings! and yep........somedays I feel exactly like that (err the fat=stupid part) and yep even had more than just a few folks in my lifetime make me feel unworthy and dumb.....actually had a few come right out and tell me that to my face.....my own step-father told me that I was a loser and would never amount to anything.....one of my aunts told me the same thing - and we don't even want to start with my dad...ugh....then there were all the teachers in my life who told me I was a loser (yup, they really did!) My favorite was the typing teacher who told me that I would never type more than 35wpm....ha! if only she could see me now! I actually type 90+wpm! so what did she know?!?! it's ok cuz even if I haven't done much with my life, and even if I never do anything amazing or noteable....I am what I am....I am "just a stay-at-home-mom" but, I wouldn't trade it for all the money and fame in the world! why? cuz I love being a mom! what am I going to do when my son up and leaves me? I have no idea cuz it's all I've ever really wanted to do. " That is so very true! Melody, I really flubbed up trying to explain with my little grandson. What I should've said is, if you are one of 100 people taking the test, and you make 100 on it, you did better than 50% of those people. If you got 110, you did better than 75% of the other people taking the test. If you made 120, you did better than 93% of the other people taking the test(93 out of 100 ain't bad!). In comparing his age of 8 to ages of older children, I clouded the issue...sorry. It bothers me how so many of us, myself included, don't think very highly of ourselves. Of course we don't want to be conceited or braggerts, but I see so much intelligence and talent in all of you just by reading your letters, and I don't think many of us realize that we even posess it! I know I have doubted my abilities most of my life. Maybe, if we started giving ourselves positive messages, loving messages everyday, to counteract those negative messages we have in our heads from teachers, parents, husbands, ect., all these numbers we measure ourself by won't have such power over us. Just a thought! It's funny, I feel that way about - I don't place a lot of stock in his test scores, but what I "know" he has learned for the year. Yet, when it comes to myself I tend to judge by the "world's standards" silly.....I agree that we need to stop placing such emphasis on the numbers and go by what we feel or know in our heart of hearts to be true!
