Jackie, you are welcome. After my post to you, I decided to jump back on the low carb train. Maybe I can take off another 10, then another.... a little at a time. I even talked my DH into going low carb with me. Instead of his usual lunch, I made him roll ups with lean sandwich meat and cheese, on low carb whole wheat tortillas. I didn't expect him to like them, but he loved them. lol. He requested them for tomorrow. He couldn't wait, so he had a half of one tonight for a snack. I am so glad you feel better. : ) I do want you to know, that I wasn't trying to suggest weight loss surgery. That is not a fix all. It is a personal choice, and not for everybody. I better get myself to bed. It's already after 1 am. Nite, Trista

Trista.....RE: MS and Weight

Hi Trista,……my dau has PCOS too, and she is struggling with weight. I never had a weight problem until I had my children. I never did over eat, but I do have a propensity towards sweets, and I think I may be insulin resistant myself. When I went on a lower carb diet, and cut out sugar I lost 27 lbs last year, and I really need to get back on it now. Thank you for encouraging me, and I really feel better now.

Hugs, Jackie J

Jackie, I just wanted to tell you, that there is more to you, than weight. I struggled with weight since I was about 11 yrs old. My hormones are constantly out of whack, and as soon as puberty hit, so did the weight. I have been dx'd with PCOS, which makes it difficult to lose weight. Before I was dx'd with diabetes , I was told I was insulin resistant, something that went along with the pcos. In 2001, I had gastric bypass surgery. I started out at 300 lbs. I was hoping to lose enough to "fit in" to society more and feel better about myself. I lost 110 lbs, bringing me down to 190. I never lost another lb, even though I hardly ate anything. So, when people say that overweight people are heavy because of eating a lot, it simply isn't always the case. Since I hit my lowest weight back in 2001, I slowly gained back 40 lbs. Not by overeating, because only a small amt. fits into my pouch now. But, here I sit at 230 for the last 3 years. If I do a very strict low carb diet, I can lose 10 lbs, but I don't lose any more than that no matter what I do. So, I am happy I had the surgery, because with it came a new way of thinking. I got so many compliments as I lost weight. My self esteem skyrocketed for the first time in my life. I met and married my husband, which was the best thing I ever did. He is my best friend. We added 2 more children to our house since 2003. (we have 4 now) I would still like to lose this 40 lbs and get back down to 190, but it has been very hard. I find that I am now "average" sz, even though I am 230. The 70 lbs I have kept off is a big deal. I can move so much better now. And I still have my newfound attitude about myself. It stuck somehow. lol. So, I'm saying a few things. Gastric bypass is not a cure all. I became my sickest after I lost weight. You probably won't lose as much as you hope to lose. And, you do not have to overeat to be heavy. I am living proof. When I weighed 300 lbs, some people only saw the weight, and not the person. Kwim? That hurt. I am a complex individual. I am pretty, smart, funny..... I started to like myself. I can be sexy when I want, although with 4 kids it isn't often. lol. : ) You deserve love, friendship, and all the good things in life. There is much more to you, than weight.

Hi Trista,……..well I started back on it today too. We

love the roll ups too. In fact I have a really good recipe for Chicken

Enchiladas using the whole wheat tortillas. I get a brand that doesn’t

have the usual whole wheat aftertaste, so its really

yummy. If you are interested, e-mail me off list. rubyjax@...

I just heard on the news

today that many weight loss surgeries end up with life threatening

complications. I’m glad yours went well. If I could I would, so you

talking about it wasn’t anything I hadn’t

already thought of.

Let me know how your

lo-carbing goes, and if you have any yummy recipes e-mail me.

Thanks!

Hugs, Jackie

Jackie,

I believe we have a place to post your recipes here for the group. I am interested and others may be too. Maybe you can put it there for all to enjoy. :)

I now several people who have had WLS, but none with extreme problems. I do know some who have had their stoma close up real small, not allowing food to pass, and one with a bowel obstruction. (but, that was probably due to her being pica, instead of WLS. She ate paper. ) I have had no real problems, and would do it again, despite not losing "enough". I am at a much better place at 230, than at 300 lbs. I will probably drop 20-30 lbs on my own soon, if I don't get pregnant again soon! lol. I have a 2.5 yr old and a 1 yr old on Saturday. :) I've been pg, or breastfeeding for the last 3+ years. I have a hard time losing, when I'm nursing. He just weaned, so hopefully it will be easier.

I actually bought 3 or 4 booklets that a lady put together on low carb recipes. They are supposed to be "real" home cooking type recipes and not the frilly gourmet stuff you usually see in cookbooks. I got them off ebay. became addicted to ebay, when I became ill and couldn't get out much. It helps me not go crazy, when I'm weak and fatigued and can't go shopping. I'll talk to you later. Let me know if you post that recipe. :) Trista

I meant Polycystic ovarian syndrome. My brain is a little sluggish today.

It can be painful. I get sharp stabbing pains from cysts, out of the blue when I'm not expecting it. It can double me over. I thankfully don't have all the sx's though. No extra hair or acne. I had fertility issues, painful cysts, insulin resistance and now diabetes, weight problems. I actually lose weight on BCP's because they regulate my crazy hormones. T.

I know! It went by fast. It is funny when I think that I've been doing one or both for over 3 years! I think I might have one more, but I need a little time! Plus, I'm getting old! :( But, pregnancy sure does help my sx's though. But, then again, there is a big whammy after the birth. Oyyyyy. Trista

ROFL and nodding at the "getting old". I had my boys when I was "younger". <g> For years, I thought I'd only have the two of them. That's all I wanted, hoped for and planned. Life was far different back then. Oh, and I just knew I wouldn't have had children when I got "older" anyway. Oh those ideas of older. So much has changed. LOLOL Now I know if I'd had years before, I probably would have had a dozen or more and I'd be birthin and breastfeeding for years. ROFL We added our two girls even at or past those "older" ages. :o) Challis Trista wrote: I know! It went by fast. It is funny when I think that I've been doing one or both for over 3 years!
