Guest guest
The RAI can and probably did cause the metallic taste and the nausea. The off schedule heavy period wasn't caused by the radiation from the RAI but from being severely hypo in preparation for RAI. The brain fog and muscle fatigue are lessening with the unithroid (aka synthroid). Surely we don't really have to do this every year!!?? in GA papillary CA, pt 6/00 papillary CA, tt 6/
Guest guest
, My daughter started menstrual bleeding (mid-cycle) four hours after her RAI. It continued for 19 days so they did a pelvic and intravaginal ultrasound to be sure there wasn't some other problem besides being so hypo. Her old and very experienced GYN said it was probably just all hormonal but he could not say with certainty that the radiation was not a factor even though that has not been documented. Just having the TT (without RAI) has altered the normal pattern and flow of my periods and today is my one year anniversary of my surgery. They are more normal than they were the first 6 months, but I still am slightly off. My endo said it usually takes about 6 months after a TT for things to settle down. I'm sure women have a wide range of experiences with this. For your other question: Most doctors want at least the first annual scan to be done hypo, then if that is clean the next year can be done with the Thyrogen injections. The LID is still recommended each time. Some doctors prefer the first 2 years to be done hypo. This disease is an exercise in patience if nothing else! Best of luck to you, Donna (Kathleen's mom)
Guest guest
, The same thing happened to me but I think the period part was from being so hypo and the metallic taste from the RAI. I had several really bad periods during the worst parts of hypo. As soon as I climbed out of hypo-my cycle went back to what is normal for me.
