I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend. No emails from the list today....everyone must be busy or exhausted from activities. For me, its the latter. My daughter and I did a 10K today at Fort Hood. There was a 5K and 10K run and a 10K volksmarch. She jogged and I power walked. I finished the 10K (6.25 miles) volksmarch in 1 hour, 24 minutes, 10 seconds. It was nice, but I was by myself most of the time, hoping that I wouldn't turn off on a wrong street or something. The 10K Run participants were in front of me, and the volksmarch walkers were behind me, so there were times when I couldn't see any of the other participants. There weren't many competitive walkers, so I was pretty much on my own, except for when I was passing runners who were lagging behind the pack. The course winded across Fort

Hood... on streets with traffic. There were soldiers directing the runners/walkers, but sometimes the checkpoints were pretty far spaced.

I was bored this evening, so I went for another walk. Did 4 miles and then came home and did laps in the pool, arms only, for 20 minutes.

I just took some Aleve... my legs are killing me.

I'm gonna sleep good tonight!

Hugs,

. It was wonderful meeting you and getting to put a face to the name. I am back home now and very tired but we had a wonderful time. I had to stop by my daughter's house here in town on my way home for my great-granddaughter's first birthday party but just stayed a short time.

I am eager to get in touch with Darlene, but will wait until tomorrow evening to e-mail her.

Hope you have a great week. All that mowing will surely help on the scales!

>>>MARY A. WROTE>>>Janet, I just mowed two acres and I was exhausted. But you will have a good loss this

I wish , but my scale looks to be the same as last week, or slightly up! Someone in my TOPS group said that your body DOESN'T get used to walking exercise... I beg to differ. I can powerwalk 4 miles and I'm not even breathing hard...it just doesn't even get my heartrate up anymore. I have to jog stretches in between, or do hills. This hasn't always been the case. When I weighed over 270, just walking a little way would send my heart to pounding. I honestly think that my body is "used to" my regular 4 mile walks. Thats why I've started working out sometimes twice a day, plus twice a week, I've started doing about 6 miles at a time, with more jogging in between AND I've started doing weight training... not only to tone, but also because I have to do weight-bearing exercise because of my bone density, or lack thereof. I was on prednisone at high doses for such a long time and it caused bone loss. That, added with a genetic predisposition to osteoporosis AND the bone loss that goes along with menopause (at age 32), I've got a triple whammy on me. I have a bone density scan once a year, and they're not looking good. Scans have shown loss in bone density, especially in my hips. I'm not even 40 yet, and I'm afraid I'm gonna fall and break a hip! I'm on fosamax, in addition to 1,800 mg of calcium daily, along with doctor's orders to do weight training. I've done really well with food choices and portion control this week, but since the scales haven't, in my opinion, reflected all the healthy living that I've been doing, I've gone back to figuring up calories in my food journal. I always keep a journal, but I'd gotten lazy about figuring up calories.

Good for you mowing 2 acres, ! I mowed and weedeated yesterday...since it finally started drying up around here.

Have a terrific week!

Hugs,

Janet
