Vaccine titers

I'm on a dog list that has a vet who is a regular contributor. She has a rescue

dog whose vaccine history was unknown. To avoid unnecessary vaccines she ran

titers. The first one was a year ago and the antibody levels for distemper and

parvo virus were adequate. She was surprised when she ran them again this year

that the distemper came back low. She was curious about it and decided to test

them again before giving the booster. A few months went by before she got

around to doing it again - so the level should have continued to drop. What is

interesting is that the second titers test actually came back with a higher

antibody level. She didn't offer any explanation and planned forego the booster

and check again next year.

For anyone having their children tested for school - if the results are low it

may be worth repeating. I also find it interesting that excessive vaccines

seems to becoming a hot issue with many dog owners. I wish it were with

pediatricians.
