Guest guest
Check the links. It's there. Just remember to tell them that you want it for personal use. if you don't do that, they want $175 for it. If you tell them personal use, the price drops to $40, I think. It's cheaper to get a friend to tape it! I don't know whether that's legal or not; I suspect that making copies of one you've bought is not. Although I am no lawyer. Guest guest
I am in Stuart. Dr. and Greene from Shands (U of F) Gainesville are working my case. > Hey Nice to Smile, > I'm in Miami. Guest guest
Cammie, I'm a little unclear about your post. Are you talking about blood above>? They know it's for my own personal use and they quoted me $225.00 About the tape, my sister taped it for me on Discovery Channel. I can't even think it would be illegal to duplicate it. > Check the links. It's there. Just remember to tell them that you want > it for personal use. if you don't do that, they want $175 for it. Guest guest
Nope, I'm talking about the tape. It's $175, unless you tell em it's personal use, and then it's $40. And it's full of copyright warnings, at least when you order it. And I suspect in a trailer on the teevee. I think they might be unhappy to know you're doing a bunch of 'em, but I'm not telling. C. Guest guest
Wow, you are kidding me. The thing is, I'm not selling them (I don't know if that matters). That is just insane. Did you want to get a copy, is that how you found out? I can't believe they would charge so much when they televise it. Also, usually like HBO, etc., won't let you copy or certain channels won't let you copy stuff. My sister did it, no problem. Well, thanks for not talking. I sure hope nobody else does. I'll try to check it out at the end and see if they have something about " copyright " but I am also afraid that I am accidentally going to see something in that tape I don't like. Thanks again, and I sure hope you others who I am sending this to won't turn me in. On a funny note, when I gave blood today for my surgery I asked the lady if it was cheaper if I was donating for myself and she had no idea what I was talking about. I can see why now. You weren't talking about the blood. Thanks again Cammie for looking out for me. Donna > Nope, I'm talking about the tape. It's $175, unless you tell em it's > personal use, and then it's $40. Guest guest
Cammie, this is my second response. I never bought the tape. I was just reading your whole post over again. Like I said, my sister saw it on TV and taped it for me. > Nope, I'm talking about the tape. It's $175, unless you tell em it's > personal use, and then it's $40. Guest guest
Donna, I'm pretty sure that Cammie was teasing you. No one is going to turn you in. And I don't think the publishers are too concerned about orthognathic patients copying the film for personal use. They're much more interested in someone airing the film for commercial purposes. You are so right, in my opinion, to avoid looking at the film until after surgery. I only watched the first few minutes and had to turn it off. I'm not usually squeamish about stuff like this. I have watched surgeries on tape before. Funny thing, though, when it's going to be your turn on the table for the same operation - well, let's just say that it's a whole different viewing experience! You're doing a really nice thing for people, Donna, but you're right in drawing the line here. Anyone who wants to see it badly enough can order it for $40.00 from the Discovery channel. You've got enough to do to ready yourself emotionally and physically for your upcoming surgery. Cheryl
Guest guest
Nope. I was not teasing in the least. I don't know, but I do know that some folks who have trademarks and copyrights are very, very zealous in protecting them. I work for a newspaper, and if we once refer to ziplock bags, for example, we will almost instantly get reminders from lawyeres that the proper usage Ziplock (i've never had that one happen, but Xerox is another one). They spend a fortune to come up with the names, and they are eager to protect their exclusive right to them, so that the name doesn't become generalised and therefore no longer their exclusive property. I dunno of anybody who's been quite that zealous about copyrights, but I do know that there's a whole field of law dealing with it. (MOLLY -- WHERE ARE YOU? HELP!! I MAY BE IN OVER MY HEAD HERE!) I'm sure you're right that they'd leap more quickly on a commercial use, such as a dentist who bought it for the minimal fee and used it to promote his practice. I wouldn't suggest, either, that you look at it, unless you really want to, before surgery. Or after, either, for that matter. It didin't bother me in the least. I thought it was fascinating. But it is bloody, and it shows the technical approaches and details. And I certainly agree with Cheryl about the fact that you're being kind, but that you have many other things, I'll bet, that you need to be doing. Guest guest
Sorry Cammie, Didn't mean to put words in your mouth (or on your fingers). I meant that you *might* be teasing about anyone turning Donna in. She sounded a little nervous in her post. I hope you're having a pain-free weekend. It's hot as blazes here in Miami.
