Session I: June 1- June 29, 2007 Monday Weds Friday 9-11:30 II: July 2- July 29, 2007 Monday Weds Friday 9-11:30 Group 1 LiPS/Seeing Stars Group 2 Visualizing and Verbalizing This camp-like setting atmosphere sets the stage for a fun filled month of learning. Speech Language Pathologists will teach the classes using the mood Bell Reading and Comprehension Programs. Enrollment is limited to 6 children per class, per session. There are twelve meeting days per session. Both groups are offered each session. Group 1 mood Phonemic Sequencing (LiPS®) Program and Seeing Stars® Program Candidates must be: at least 5 years of age This program is designed to successfully stimulate phonemic awareness by increasing awareness of mouth actions which produce speech sounds. This awareness becomes the means of verifying sounds within words and enables individuals to become self-correcting in reading and spelling, and speech. Children who would benefit make errors such as: “Steam” for stream, “imagination” for immigration, “claps” for clasps “gril” for girl, “death” for deaf, etc. Group 2 Nancibell Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking ® (V/V®) Candidates must be at least 7 years of age. This program is used to successfully stimulate concept imagery. Individuals with weak concept imagery only get “parts” such as a few facts or details rather than the whole picture, which impacts on reading comprehension, critical thinking, difficulty following directions, following conversations or expressing ideas in an organized manner. Children who may benefit are described as follows: *They have to reread material several times and often only remember a few details. *They may be labeled a “poor listener” or seem shy with difficulty organizing their language. *Their writing is often described as unorganized and nonspecific. IMPORTANT NOTICE Children love to share what they are learning. Home program activities will be provided throughout the session. Parent participation is essential for success. A commitment for the entire session is required to qualify for the program. Payment for the entire program is expected prior to the start of the program to secure your space. There will be no refunds for missed days. It is very important that the children complete the entire session for the full benefit to be realized. When calling to register, please specify the session and group. Call for pricing details. Registration fee is $100 and includes pre and post standardized testing. Testing is mandatory prior to the start of the program for appropriate planning. Pre and post parent conferencing will be either by phone or in the office depending on scheduling.
