Guest guest
When my little guy was most sensative, there were a few food items that took quite awhile to recover from being exposed to once they were out of his diet. Once an exposure to milk took two months to recover from and another time an exposure to a very small amount of orange juice took three weeks to recover from. The OJ caused an extremely severe regression where he couldn't make eye contact or respond to even simple requests. To rule out any environmental thing, you might think about what's around the place you visited to consider any spraying that might have affected him. However, a quick severe regression like that usually turns out to be allergy from the cases I know about and also tends to be more temporary than regressions that are relatively gradual over a period of months. A final thing to consider is too much traveling and people time. Sometimes really young, sensative kids appear to regress when there is too much change and then bounce back quickly when their routine is resumed. Guest guest
How long ago was his last vaccine and did it have thimerosal in it? Unfortunately, mercury takes 3 or more months to show the damage wrought. Sorry for this set back but you have identified him very early and will probably be able to reverse the damage done. Where are you located and do you have a doctor to assist you with treating these kids? Heidi [ ] We're frantic! Dear Friends, We have three sons - our oldest is 4 and has Pragmatic Language Disorder (on the Autism spectrum). Our middle guy is 2 3/4 and has PDD-NOS. Our youngest son is 14 months and was showing autistic tendencies at 9 months, but we stopped his vaccines, put him on the GFCF diet (soy too) and he completely turned around. He has since been an extremely verbal, social baby, seeking interaction with others. Two weeks ago we traveled to my in-laws out of state. While at their house our 14 month old hardly interacted with anyone and was crabby the whole time. When we got home he improved but still wasn't himself. This past week we travelled back there again and he definitely regressed - and didn't improve when we got home. At our Labor Day gathering today no one could get him to look them in the eye; he seems to be in a daze and has lost about 3/4 of his language. We are absolutely in a panic!!!!!!!!! We know that while there he had a hot dog and fries that probably weren't GFCF. Would this have suddenly made him autistic? Could it have been something environmental there? Has anyone else heard of such a drastic regression that you can almost pinpoint it to the day? Any advice? We started Nystatin three days ago and are now giving him supplements. Any help would be appreciated. =======================================================

Unfortunately, mercury takes 3 or more months to show the damage wrought. His last vaccine was Dec. 2000 and yes, there was thimerosal. We felt like by the end of April 2001, all the effects seemed to be gone as long as we were strictly GFCF and soy free (the 1 bottle a day of soy formula seemed to really affect him). > Sorry for this set back but you have identified him very early and will probably be able to reverse the damage done. Where are you located and do you have a doctor to assist you with treating these kids? We are in St. Louis and have used Dr. Bruce Stayton, near Kansas City as our DAN! doctor. We already just returned from the Pfeiffer Institute in Chicago to have our two older sons evaluated. We also have an appt. for all three with Dr. Amy Holmes for next Feb. (the earliest we can get in). Can you sense our desparation?!? So far for our little guy we haven't had any tests run since there were no symptoms, but I'll be calling tomorrow a.m. to get those rolling. Guest guest
What type of Nystatin are you using? The powder or liquid? We used the powder for a while for my son and he had a bad reaction to it; not more autistic, just hyper, irritable, crying as if in fear and holding his stomach. He has tolerated the liquid Nystatin from a regular pharmacy fine. Are you sure he has a yeast problem? Sometimes it makes things worse if there isn't actually a yeast problem. I would try going GFCF again without any slip ups and see if he improves. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Are you giving him Cod Liver OIl? (boy I sound like a broken record here.....) Guest guest
, It sounds like you're very much tuned in to what to look for in your kids--even if this is a regression of some sort, you are definitley on top of it which gives you every reason to be optimistic about reversing it. I know several people who have seen Dr. Stayton in Independence and we are considering visiting with him. We've also been thinking about trying to set something up with the Pfeiffer Institute. I'd love to hear what your experiences have been like with both Dr. Stayton and at Pfeiffer--please email privately if you'd like to. Best wishes for you & your family-- Rita Springfield, MO > --- In @y..., " Heidi " <elevatordance@m...> wrote: > > How long ago was his last vaccine and did it have thimerosal in > it? Guest guest
, I hope your son is doing well because i have experienced this type of regression. I think with my son it was a virus in the CNS. I do believe it is chronic because of mercury toxicity and I believe it is the cause of all his autistic tendencies. My son is presently on acyclovir. You may want to run titers on HVV6 or EBV to rule out or try the acyclovir and see if there is progress. If it is the virus, I would think chewing ion objects would have increased. If you try to take a picture of your son will he respond as he did before? Do not worry he is so young, you'll correct it. nne > > > How long ago was his last vaccine and did it have thimerosal in > > it? Guest guest
Thanks to all for the suggestions regarding our 14 month old with the sudden regression. We started cod liver oil last night (thanks for the excerpt from the Megson article - amazing) and I have a telecon with our DAN doctor tomorrow a.m. and an appt. with his regular peditrician tomorrow afternoon. You all have given me some specifics to inquire about. I can't begin to express my gratitude. I'll keep you posted.
