Guest guest
I just consulted with a Urogynocologist yesterday about the same problem. The recommendations are as follows: Enroll in a study for a new drug Duloxetene (recently approved by the FDA, but not available on the market) for six months to see if this lessens the leakage or frequency to urinate. If it works, continue with dosages until menopause. Have a Myomectomy/Hysterectomy. Take Detrol/Ditrapan until menopause. He didn't state any long term effects by doing nothing about the condition. Right now I will just deal with the problem. I'm not willing to take any drugs until I reach menopause or have anymore surgery. I guess it depends on how bad your situation gets. Good Luck! Guest guest
why does your doctor not want you to have a UAE? Its your body you should look into it. Much less invasive and if you don't think its for you then don't do it but certainly look into it. Your situation sounds like mine with the bladder pressure. Its a nuisance. Do you plan anymore children and where do you live that maybe you could see a interventional radiologist to at least discuss this as an option. Guest guest
Have you had a renal ultra sound? That will determine what damage if any is being done to your kidneys or bladder. The ultra sound diagnosed hydronephrosis in a kidney and I had a myomectomy. I was " laid up " for one week although I took 6 weeks total from work. > Hi, > > I have multiple fibroids with an enlarged uterus, the largest being 3.5. > I had an US done and could see the fibroids are pressing on 1/3 of my > bladder. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I have a similar problem where my 12cm fibroid presses on my bladder. Whenever I actually sleep thru the night (7 hours) my bladder feels ready to burst in the am! When I've waited way too long to go, I have actually had cramping that was horrible. My fibroid is pressing on the back of my bladder. I just talked to my Dr. and she said that in all her practice she has never seen kidney problems from fibroids pressing on things. (unless they are really blocking the whole bladder) I've somewhat been considering a myo. but have a 3 1/2 year old son that I really can't leave (thru bedrest for 6weeks!) I would need to wait on a better time. Plus he is just starting Nursery School 2x a week. He is a very active child and is pretty needy of me at this stage. My fibroid is degenerating (dying) but the Dr. says it takes quite a while for it to shrink up and die! I need to weigh the quality of my life and having surgery, not quite ready to make that decision as yet. Blessings! Elise
Guest guest
Kathleen, Like Rose, I am also wondering why your doctor doesn't recommend UAE. It is not recommended if you want more children, since the long- term effects are not known, but if you are through having kids, this is an option you may want to explore further. Doctors who don't do UAE often don't recommend it, so if interested, you should schedule a consult with an Interventional Radiologist. If your largest fibroid is 3.5 cm, I would think you would get good results with UAE for your symptoms. Even with multiple fibroids, they are ALL treated with UAE, so it seems like it would work well for you. I had UAE for primarily urinary symptoms - urinary frequency and at times I had difficulty going even when I knew my bladder was full. I got up several times in the night to go to the bathroom - it sounds like as often as you. I had one dominant fibroid that was 8 cm, and you could see on the MRI that it was squeezing my bladder - it looked like an hourglass. My gyn. recommended hysterectomy or UAE - he did not recommend myomectomy if I did not intend to have children, which I don't (I'm 46). UAE seemed the best option for my symptoms and in my research, it seemed that the best results would be for fibroids under 10 cm. Still, I was concerned about how long it would take for the symptoms to be relieved, and it was my IR's opinion that they would be relieved right away. He said that once the fibroid loses its blood supply, its consistency becomes softer and I would likely see relief right away. I am happy to say that this is exactly what happened. The effect was almost immediate. Right now (4-1/2 months post UAE) I am trying to take off pounds and am drinking GOBS of water, and my urinary problems are history, and I never get up during the night any more. My gyn. wanted me to do something before the problem got worse. I am glad I did, because if the fibroid had grown, I might not have gotten as good results. Sorry this is so long....just wanted you to hear from someone with similar symptoms. I had UAE on a Friday and took the whole next week off from work, but I could have gone back earlier if I really had to. Guest guest
It probably would not harm your bladder unless it caused reflux and stenosis and infection. If you don't have infections why would it be any different than say, an eight pound baby displacing the space? gg Kathleen Monroe wrote: > Hi, > > I have multiple fibroids with an enlarged uterus, the largest being 3.5. > I had an US done and could see the fibroids are pressing on 1/3 of my > bladder. Guest guest
As others have said in their responses, the time of limited activity post myo is short. You probably would need help with an active toddler however. Margaret > Hi Margaret, > > You were only laid up 1 week after the Myo??!! Guest guest
I had hydronephrosis in one kidney but I had no symptoms at all. It was discovered by a renal ultra sound that my doctor had ordered. > Kim, > > Sorry to hear of your kidney problems. How does one know if they have a > kidney problem?
