funny- and even " cute " - so it won't be too much torture to watch him a

million times. I wonder how will react to the new guy- he probably

won't even notice- LOL

Donovan- who plays " joe " used to do Shakespeare- believe it or not-

well- it says on the Nick Jr Site that they are going to transition Joe in-

over three episodes- and Steve will be back for the 100th episode.

Here is info from the site-

(i know it's a little ot- but i think a good number of the children on this

list LOVE this show- and it's important for us to know what's going to

happen)

.. Who is Joe?

Joe is Steve's younger brother. Steve is going off to college and Joe is

coming‹ready to play Blue's Clues. Actor Donovan Patton was selected to play

the part of Joe by preschoolers and their parents. Joe will be introduced

during a 90-minute special, airing April 29.

Like his brother, Joe is funny, friendly, inquisitive, and happily learning

to play Blue's Clues with Steve, Blue, and all his new friends. Joe has many

favorite colors and so he will be wearing different colored rugby shirts to

reflect his whimsical, preschool personality. Joe approaches everything with

a sense of wonder and appreciates simple pleasures such as following a

sound, rearranging blocks, or gazing through a kaleidoscope. He fumbles,

giggles, and likes to just be silly‹yep, he's your average preschooler.

2. Is Steve really leaving Blue's Clues? Why?

Yes, Steve is leaving, but Blue's Clues is here to stay. After six years in

the role and 97 episodes of Blue's Clues, actor Steve Burns was ready to

move on. On the show, Steve will be going to college and his younger

brother, Joe, will be joining the Blue's Clues gang. In real life, actor

Steve Burns is pursuing other interests. Both Blue's Clues and Nick Jr.

support him in his decision.

3. How will Steve's departure be handled?

The Blue's Clues team has put together a series of three episodes that:

* Give preschoolers time to get to know and like their new friend, Joe

* Help explain Steve's departure

* Give an inspiring look at Steve's future: college!

If you miss any of these episodes, it's okay, they'll be on again. Plus, the

episodes were written to stand alone so you and your kids don't have to see

all three in order to understand the overall story.

Episode One: Joe's First Day

It's a big day‹we're playing Show and Tell and Steve's brother, Joe, is

coming over to visit! What will Joe bring for Show and Tell? We play Blue's

Clues to figure it out. When Joe finally arrives, everyone is happy to

include him in the game and get to know him.

Episode Two: Joe Gets a Clue!

Steve's brother, Joe, is over today and we play Blue's Clues to figure out

what Blue wants to give Joe as a present. Since it's Joe's first time ever

playing Blue's Clues, Steve needs our help teaching him the rules.

Episode Three: Joe's Here To Stay!

Steve and his brother, Joe, are really happy to see us because they have

some big news to share: Steve is going to college today! Everyone is excited

to learn that Joe will stay with us while Steve is away. We skidoo to

college with Steve, then help Joe throw Steve a special surprise goodbye

party.

4. How can I help my child with the transition?

There is no one way to best handle transitions. Each child is attached to

Steve and the Blue's Clues world differently. Ultimately, your child's

personality will determine how you handle this change with him or her. The

Blue's Clues team did lots of research to present the transition from Steve

to Joe in a way that is clear, positive, and inspiring.

In the coming weeks, we'll present expert advice and tips that will help you

and your child feel more comfortable with the transition.

5. What are the changes to the show?

Blue's Clues with Joe will be both the same and different as it was with

Steve. Blue's Clues will maintain the same structure and game play but will

incorporate many new songs, educational concepts, and locations.

What's new?

* Joe!

* A new opening song

* Titles for each episode will appear at the beginning of the show, so

you and your child will know what the episode is going to be about

* Joe has shirts in different colors to reflect his whimsical nature

* Joe has a new notebook with a Thinking Chair design

* Joe loves squares (instead of stripes)

* A new " We Just Figured Out Blue's Clues " song

What's the same?

* The interactive format that invites preschoolers to play along with

each episode

* We will still play Blue's Clues every day and solve related problems

and puzzles

* The house and neighborhood (we'll just see more of it!)

* All of the animated characters

* Mailtime

* We will still skidoo to new worlds and environments

* Some of the songs, including the Theme Song, the Mail Song, and the

" Now It's Time for So Long " Song

6. What are some of the upcoming storylines and topics with Joe?

With Joe, preschoolers will travel to new places and have adventures that

cover a wide array of educational and thematic topics. Some things to look

forward to are:

Places to visit: A boat marina, a contraption world, Blue's preschool, a

game board, a shadow puppet theater, Blue's doctor, the car wash, and

Storybook Forest.

New things to learn: Patience, body language, cause and effect,

reading/writing messages, predictions, charts, observations, imaginary

friends, and the first day of school.

" Back to Basics " topics: Colors, numbers, letters, feelings, shapes, and

everyday preschool rituals (e.g., bathtime, bedtime, storytime).

Adventures: A neighborhood festival, a car trip, a scavenger hunt, taking

care of Magenta's house, dancing to different rhythms, and a trip back in

time to Blue's first holiday.

7. Will Steve ever come back to visit with Joe and Blue?

Steve will be back in a special 100th episode celebration airing in June

2002, as well as in a future Blue's Clues holiday special. Steve will also

consistently be on the air in Blue's Clues episodes rerunning on Nick Jr.,

CBS, and Noggin. Or check out Blue's Clues episodes with Steve available on

home video and DVD.

8. Can we send a letter to Steve or Joe?

You can send mail to Steve or Joe at the following address:

I saw him on a morning show from NYC about 2 years ago, and he seemed very

uncomfortable with the hosts telling him how much their kids love him, and

how he's this icon, etc... Steve kept saying how the show is a teaching

tool, etc- but the guy (steve) has to understand that it's really all about

money (like 99.99% TV is) and the fact that it teaches our kids is just a

bonus to the makers of the show and Nick. I think also he's probably in his

late twenties, if not 30, and his peers make fun of him. It's hard to take.

Also- he's about 5'4'' or so.... he's probably defensive to begin with

(trying to deal with societies pressures)

My cousin saw him at FAO Schwartz in NYC for a promotional thing- and he was

allegedly saying to his producers something along the lines of " Get these

stupid kids in here and then i could leave " --- he just didn't seem like he

enjoyed being there and was disrespectful of the children behind their

backs.

My cousin said he seemed like kind of a jerk - which i didn't believe until

I saw him on that TV interview. He's just so fun and postitive and funny on

the show- and in the interview he bitched and was ungrateful and didn't come

across well. I wish i had a copy of it. I remember thinking, when i heard

he was going to be on, that i should call the 2 year old i babysit for- so

she could watch the interview. And then after, i was glad I didn't. It

probably would have upset her.

I also saw Steve on " Yes, Dear " in one of the funniest segments on network

TV. Steve did a good job- but then again, he was being Steve from Blue's

Clues. I wonder what other projects he will do. I think he's going to be

type casted- he should have stayed with Blue and made the most of it.

(although i'm glad Joe is coming because i was getting tired of Steve)

-just my humble opinion-

BTW- i always know how old an episode is by Steve's hair- lol

OK, after reading all this Steve-worship, I'd like to know if I'm the only one

here who thinks Steve is a geek. I mean, Tricia loves him, but she is only

three. won't watch Blue's Clues, he says it's " silly " .

You know, I never even thought about Steve. " Blue's Clues " is one of

the few shows will pay attention to, so we see it a lot, but

honestly...Steve as a " real person " just a non-issue to me. I heard

the actor who plays him speak in a short interview once, and he

struck me as NOT exactly charming...and I agree he's nuts to leave a

sure thing that no doubt makes him tons of money and a familiar face

everywhere...but a lot of celebrities do that.

We will no doubt use our recorded videos of the older shows rather

than make go through a transition to a new guy...he doesn't

care if it's the same one playing over again or not...in fact I think

he likes that about it.

When does this all happen? (Can you tell we haven't watched the

actual show on Nick lately?)

that quote is from the Nick Jr Site

loved Blues first, then Sesame Street (first Elmo's World)...

Now he'll watch Blue- but doesn't get really into it-

When Sesame Street is on he dances, sings, laughs, etc

(of course the singing is more like " do do do, la la la " - but he tries)

I also like SS better myself because they deal with letters and numbers more

than Blue- and i felt as a two year old he wasn't getting anything out of

Blue- but recognizing the songs.

He also likes Dora- but not as much anymore. I like that they repeat words

(river, mountain, lake, river, mountain, lake....) But the use of spanish,

i think, will give him problems in the future.

He also loves Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right and Family Feud. He also

watched alittle of Millionaire when it was on 5 days a week :)

What's nice with is that he doesn't always HAVE to have his video or

show on- i get to watch my show and he hangs out and plays.

For a while, his fav thing was MSNBC- with the tickertape stock reports

moving along the bottom of the screen. He would look at the back of the tv

to see if they ended up there. I think he finally figured that one out.

Steve IS a geek, I don't dispute THAT.

But geek or not, my kids adore him <most of the time> and have grown up with

him.

And taking into consideration their love of routine - - - I'm just freaked

out that they will freak out.

I don't care for the show myself...... while he does grow on you, the very

idea of him growing on you is rather scary.

Now Jacquie.... she is flat out weird. She finds him SEXY.

Not in a million years LOL.

I just have to hope these last me a lifetime because I don't think we'll

You don't think they will take the old Clues videos off the market, do you?

Ok-

i will admit-

in the beginning

i was slightly attracted to Steve

but as soon as i saw him on a talk show-

that ended

Donavan/Joe-

he's got potential

I saw a bunch of clips from the NickJr website-

and he's a better singer- and pretty funny-

and just as " cute " .

I think we all have our limits :)

Steve used to be Roland's hero, but he doesn't watch much Nick Jr. anymore.

Nicky couldn't care less about Steve either way; I feel about the same way. I

don't have a crush on any of the preschool characters, but in my opinion, the

real person I find the most likeable is Tony from " Out of the Box " .
