Guest guest
Donna, Woo hoo! May 14th! I can't believe it's so soon. I'm so happy for you, and just a little envious I must say. Cheryl
Guest guest
Thanks Cheryl. Of course, I have no idea yet how it's going to get paid for, but I believe it will work out. It's a little surreal right now. Don't worry, you aren't far behind. Hopefully I can be someone who can be an encouragement to you when your time comes. Thanks again. Donna > Donna, > > Woo hoo! Guest guest
, Thanks for your excitement for me and encouragement that EVERTHING I am feeling is normal. I've read your posts all the way through your surgery and you have provided a lot of useful information. I hope I can do the same!! Guest guest
Hi Donna, congratulations on your surgery date! I'm so excited for you. I had my upper/lower done on January 30th, 2002 so am 11 weeks post-op today. It has gone really well and I'm sure yours will too. Good luck and try to relax. After the first week you will be feeling pretty darned good. > is confirmed for May 14, 2002 at 7:30 a.m. PST. I've already woke up in the middle of the night in a panic thinking about it, but My doctor recommended giving blood if I were going to have both sides of the upper jaw done because there are more blood vessels in the middle of the upper jaw. I only had to have the left side worked on so he said I didn't need to give. In the thousands of surgeries he has done he has only had to give a blood transfusion twice so I would say those are pretty low statistics. You'll be fine, and remember, we are all here for you. > Did anyone else have to give blood before the surgery? Guest guest
Hi Donna, I asked the question about the blood donation and my surgeon told me that they used a machine that recycles your blood. So there was no need about giving blood. You might want to ask your surgeon if they do the same. Concerning your question about the models: I think it depends on who takes them. When my ortho takes them I feel the same way you did, but when the nurse at the surgeon takes them, I can hardly even feel anything. He is great. Guest guest
--- In Thanks for the encouragement. What would I do without you all? It's so nice to come some place where people can relate to what you are going through. From what I have read, if I get through the first week, (and I will), things from there will be much better. I'm not even worried about recovery...anything has to be better than the way I feel now. I just don't like " going under " . I'm more concerned of something happening and what my 5 year old daughter would go through. I have to get those thoughts out of my head and it is a daily struggle I go through. Glad to hear you are doing so well. Donna > Hi Donna, congratulations on your surgery date! I'm so excited for > you. I had my upper/lower done on January 30th, 2002 so am 11 weeks > post-op today. Guest guest
Of course you will do fine, Donna. I'm way older than you are, and I, too, am worried about the general anesthetic. But my sweetheart of a general physician, when I told him that, said, " Don't be. " And the anesthesiologist called, after I told his office I wanted to meet him and talk about the risks, to say, " We're gonna take good care of you. Don't worry about a thing. " And finally, it occurred to me that if I were in a bad auto wreck (I drive really dangerous roads, 20 miles each way to and from work, every day) I'd have anesthesia without anybody blinking an eye about it. You would, too! Aren't you happy to have a surgery date? Now you have a specific time and place to look forward to, instead of a vague, general anxiety! Best, Cammie
Guest guest
By the way, I'm 40. Guest guest
Cammie, thanks for your encouraging words. I know once I talk to the anesthesiologist that I'll feel much better, and I know millions of surgeries are done with no complications. I haven't had a chance to express my concerns about the anesthesia with my surgeon yet, but I feel confident that he will say the same as yours. My surgeon is very calm, laid back, etc. And of course if I were in serious need of surgery, I would not think twice. Matter of fact, there is an attorney who had breast cancer who works with me and we've been talking because she knows what I am going through and I thought it might be EASIER FOR ME if I had a life- threatening condition because then I would HAVE to go under. Of course, deep down, I don't want that and THANK GOD I don't have that. I was thinking today how BLESSED I am that I do have a surgery date and the opportunity to undergo this procedure. When is your surgery? Do you have a date? > Of course you will do fine, Donna. > > I'm way older than you are, and I, too, am worried about the general > anesthetic. Guest guest
Weeelll, Let's put it this way. I'm 56. I'd have had to be pretty precocious to have been your mama, but I certainly could have been your baby-sitter! (;->) I'm up on June 25... I hope. Lower only. Guest guest
Too funny....I don't feel you are WAY older than me though. June is right around the corner. Thanks Cammie > Weeelll, Let's put it this way. I'm 56. I'd have had to be pretty > precocious to have been your mama, but I certainly could have been > your baby-sitter!
