Guest guest
Well, this may be a bit off topic, but thought I'd report on my first adventure with collecting milk thistle seed. Wow--- this is one mean plant. Serious stickers--- even with gloves on it is quite risky. Makes roses look friendly! I collected 2 bucketfuls of dried out flower heads and brought them home--- but was uncertain whether there were any SEEDS in there or whether they had all scattered already. With gloves on, broke open a few of the flowers. There ARE seeds in there, but they sure are hard to get out. The " flowers " are surrounded by huge sharp prickers. Anyway, I got through one bucket of the flowers, and have separated out the seeds. I had to stop and rest, leaving the second bucketful untouched. And there is plenty more where that came from. So--- well--- I can have all the free milk thistle seeds that I want --- as long as I'm willing to fight my way through the thorny prickly plant to get them. On a related note, I checked on half.com and find that there are 3 copies of Hobbs' little booklet about Milk Thistle on sale. It only costs $3.95 " new " anyway. Here is a link if any of you would like to buy it used: http://www.half.com/cat/buy/prod.cgi?cpid=1457375 & domain_id=1856 & meta_id=1 At $1.40 to $2.00, plus $2.25 shipping, the price comes out to the same as if you bought it new at your health food store.
