Guest guest
Thank you (: I have to say I'm in the " which way do I go stage " . There are 3 options that I'm studying and learning about and I think that all of them have good points and can be utilized together. I'm trying to decide between following: Atkins Sugar Busters The Zone I am diabetic and have Candida and a list of other things that would merely bore you, wrong with me. I have had my stomach stapled (last March) drastic, yes, but effective. I'm not sorry I did it, but I can put myself back up to the over 300 pounds I was, or I can change my eating habits and finish losing weight. I just want to find which is the best program - or if I just want to take the best of all 3 and go from there. Any thoughts - or experiences dealing with any of the above mentioned programs to help me with my research will be most appreciated! Guest guest
I would love to have a pond outside my door! If it were up to me we would have a house full of animals - but someone has to clean up after them and I don't have the energy! How long have you been following the Atkins program? There is quite a lot of activity on this list - I am really pleased to see this! Thanks again (: Candace Re: SubbersQuestions Hi Candace and welcome to the list! Guest guest
atkins is the best of course cus it gets rid of cravings.. sugar busters is ok but it lets you have too many carbs in my opinion and when you have too many carbs you get cravings.. atkins by having you go into ketosis really gets rid of your appetite and thats what matters to me.. the zone is low fat as well as low carb and i dont agree with low fat catherine -----
Guest guest
Thank you - that is very helpful - as I've ordered the zone book but haven't read on it yet - I also do not do low fat, I would much father have less mayonnaise than have fat free - I think it tastes nasty (: My doctor tends to lean more towards Atkins or Sugar Busters - sugar busters you can have more carbs, true - but has to be specific types, and they are not candida friendly - that's the cool thing there. However I have been really delving into the Atkins recipe exchange and have found some oneful things to try - my husband has used Atkins several times and really does well when he follows it... Part of the problem has been me not knowing enough about it. I am concerned about kidney issues though. Is that not something I really should worry about if the program is followed correctly? Guest guest
Thanks! That makes sense. More than likely any one that may have had problems, probably did not drink enough water to flush their systems, which can cause problems regardless of how you are eating. Re: RE: SubbersQuestions well atkins has a special candida diet. .without the dairy and other things that you can follow for a month.. no the kidney thing is a myth used to discredit atkins.. all of these anti low carb things came from the days of the " liquid protien " diets that were nutritionally unbalanced.. this diet is fine you are eating real foods veggies and salads.. you must however take your muti vitamins and minerals and Drink all of your water to wash out the wastes that come from burning fat.. fat stores all the toxins in our bodies so when we burn fat they get released so you need to flush them out.. catherine ----- Please visit our homepage at http://members.xoom.com/AChallengers You will find information, recipes, before and after pictures. Guest guest
Well - I get in a good amount of fat an protein - but only because I do not pay attention to the fat grams (: I eat the real stuff - I just cannot eat a great deal of it. I eat generally in 3 meals what most people eat in a really large breakfast or possibly a meal and 1/2. Guest guest
Oh Oh Candace just wait for Lyssa . She had stomach surgery last year and has been on Atkins and has lost over a hundred pounds. Hang in there. If you watched Oprah or check in to their message board, you will know that many people did not lose weight that easily as the carbs they ate made them crave too much. We will be here for you. Guest guest
Yeah - I know that the surgery alone isn't going to do that - I've never fooled myself otherwise. I know that I can eat all day long if I time it right and I can also stretch my stomach out. The surgery was just a tool because I was out of control. Now I have to do something while I can to get my life in order. The candida makes my cravings worse - because that's what it feeds on, the little " yeasty beasties " in my blood stream love it when I give in to a carb fest <G> I know that I cannot totally give up carbs, I tried that for 90 days and almost lost my mind, but I can live within limits as long as I eat the right types of carbs and find good substitutes. I've found a few recipes today for potato and pasta substitutes that have me intrigued, I love to cook so I will try them. Never thought of cabbage in place of pasta <G> I want to find the right program, that will fit into my lifestyle, and take care of my health programs. I do appreciate everyone answering my questions and giving me their point of view - I'm not here to challenge anyone's choice, I'm here to make an educated choice for me (: Thanks again!! (: Prayers and thoughts are always welcomed! Candace Smile, it makes people wonder what you are up to <G> Re: RE: SubbersQuestions Oh Oh Candace just wait for Lyssa . I do know that many people with Candida are very successful with a modified version of Atkins (cutting out vinegar, etc) but it seems difficult (though I'm sure not more difficult than other plans -- it's just they they make a lot of their own dressings and such). Have you seen this site: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/4966/recipes.htm? Guest guest
Hi Candace I prefer Atkins myself but I think any program where you eliminate sugar, also exercise and get your protein is going to work for you. You mention stomach stapling and I was wondering which procedure did you have? I had open rny in June of 99 which is why I ask. I follow low carb as that is the post op diet my surgeon recommends .. in fact I was doing lc before I had surgery for over a year but I cheated too much and when I binged I binged! I can no longer do that and for the most part when I " m good the lc woe really works for me. Welcome to the list. Guest guest
Candace Sounds like we are alot alike .. I used to live in California (SoCal) Now live in NH. We're the same height and my memory is shot too I would love to visit New Zealand my husband's family used to live there and his brother is buried there and we would like to visit his grave one day. I absolutely love the smell of Drakkar Noir .. cologne and I love silence too especially when the kids are sleeping! LOL! Thats great that you are studying French. I was in French Immersion school from Kindergarten to Gr. 12 .. I don't have as much opportunity to use it now that I live in the US (formerly from Canada) but I hope to retain as much as I can! Guest guest
I just had the simple stapling, not the bi-pass. I can eat the equivalent of just under 1/2 happy meal cheeseburger and 3-4 fries. Now No gasping from the low carb eaters - that's just so you can get a good estimate of how little I can eat! If I get a piece of chicken from KFC - I take the skin off and I can eat 1 thigh - nothing else, and I'm stuffed. However, due to the antibiotics I've been on over the course of the last 5 months the yeastie beasties have kicked up my carb. cravings have caused me to make myself ill a few times. It is really sad when a cheese burger is your heroin! That's why I'm doing this investigation - I've got to get the yeast under control. Someone sent me a link for help with candida and that's been very useful too! (: Thanks for the feedback! I've really heard great stories from a lot of people!
