Guest guest
I had promised to post the results of my DDI tests on my breastmilk. They didn't take this long, I have been out of town and couldn't get around to posting. For background, I am still breastfeeding my 2.4 year old PDD daughter. We did one round of chelation with DMSA at 12.5 mg q 4 hours. That was before I tested my breastmilk. Now we are pausing to treat gut bugs, which are very high, though we'll resume in about 3 weeks. My breastmilk Hg results were: .002 ug/g. No reference ranges were given, and the type of Hg was not identified (elemental, organic, etc.) So, this raises more questions for us, first, how much milk is she drinking anyway? (not to mention her older NT brother who is also still breastfeeding). Since she weighs about 26 lbs (~12 kg) and the FDA (?) limit is .1 ug/kg/day, if she's getting say, half a liter a day, that'd be about 1 ug (.002 x 500g), right around the FDA limit for her weight. Seems to me, half a liter is a reasonable estimate for a day, so a heavy day of nursing (my days off from work for example) could be more. It's really a dilemma for me. Asking to nurse is the one reliable request she makes, and we treasure any language she has. I asked Dr. Amy Holmes what she thought of these results, and continuing to breastfeed, and she was not sure. I am very interested in hearing what others are doing, but for now, we'll continue to chelate while I *try* to slowly wean her. I had not thought of making the distinction of minimizing breastfeeding only during the " on " rounds, but this makes sense to me. Please continue to post ( Kaye, nne, others) so we can keep one another up to date. (seeing a dentist tomorrow about amalgam removal)
