What happened to me was after 5 years of the AA program, I was angrier and more aggressive than ever. I blasted through people's boundaries because thats what my sponsors did, and my voice was cracked from being around the constant cigarette smoke. Howver, I never completely abandoned my makeup. I've worn lipstick every day of my life since I was 12 years old, and even the subtle disapproval of AA matrons and men alike wasn't going to stop me. I am very sensitve to group attitudes, and there seemed to be a distrust of people who fixed themselves up nicely. As if you were'nt being " honest " or " yourself. " Then there were the Clancy types that thought you should wear dresses (for gals) and shirts with ties (guys) to meetings, but they were not too popular in . There was one guru type sponsor who thought men over 40 shouldn't wear jeans because they were too old to try to be cool so jeans were phony. Thats my theory. Women who go to AA and manage to survive it become meaner than animals. Why? Probably because of repeatedly being treated like shit. Men seem to be more used to that. I have always been shocked at the way men treat one another, and then alot of them end up in the army, where the way they get treated in boot camp is similar to AA. When women get to AA and are treated badly, they end up acting like men. I'm somewhat not serious here, I hope you all know.
