Guest guest
The following is my point of view only. In the end, it's your life and your child. K vs Gr 1: Social concerns. Is he ready to converse with those older than he? Will this be the same when they hit puberty first? Academic concerns: Is he gifted? If he is just high average, he may hit a ceiling later on. In grade 8, has tons of homework (his teachers believe in it) to maintain honour roll status. It gets harder .... Can your son get enrichment in the classroom or in his resource room pgm (that's what they did with my son)? These are just my concerns. My son was reading before kindergarten and is still very talented in math. However, now that so much in the classroom (gr 8) is verbal, he is always struggling to keep up with explanations, conversations, discussions, etc (much of which is tested). If he had been in a grade higher, I would be fried (or my brain would be)! It's a very personal experience and is just a point of view. You must make your own decision based on social and academic goals, not only for next year, but also for years ahead. Remember - Kdg is very social and that is where so much learning takes place :-) Cheryl
