Guest guest
Hi Tammy, , Judy and others on the list interested in this program This is a long post! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. We've been a little sick and planning a party, that's on this Saturday afternoon. I got a copy of the program on Monday and have just had a look through it. I have organised for my husband to fax copies of some of the pages to my modem (we don't have a scanner) and so I'll be able to send some of the pages to those interested. Some won't scan very well due to the colour of the paper. Until then this is the table of contents and my general comments (keep in mind my 6 yo son has a moderate loss - on the milder end, is very well aided with a flat loss, was dx early at 13 months, we had great early intervention support and didn't have to make decisions about therapies for him or understand how they worked to any depth EI did it all for us and drip feed us). doesn't receive or need any therapy at the moment so I am not in the position to comment from an AV educated point of view. There are 2 books, a 90 min cassette tape and 90 min video tape. Book 1 Preamble, Introduction and Overview Placement Test Sound Awareness Auditory Comprehension - Memory and Sequencing Discourse Level Sentence Level Word Level Adaptive Strategies and Techniques Book 2 Sound Sense Babies and Younger Children Speech - Phonemes and Suprasegmentals Adaptive Strategies and Techniques Appendices Responses/Reinforcers Sample Target Sheets Sets of Pictures Sequences Pictures for story Retelling Pictures for Contrasting Verb Tenses Pictures for Contrasting Sounds and for Item Selection Tasks Reference Books Reference books - recommended reading Books/equipment/toys suitable for use in the program Sentences and Stories Step 12 - Sentence Level Step 14 - Discourse Level Checklists Placement Test Phoneme and Suprasegmental Recommended Children's books Tests for Auditory Perception, Speech Production and Language Development - Suggested tests not actual tests Comments * the author is Sylvia Romanik - we should be able to contact her somehow on the net. * sections are generally split into steps and for each step there are sample activities supported with the video or audio cassette tape and appendices * It says it is designed for teachers and parents. There seems to be lots of information in there from audiology and hearing aids to placement tests (where to start in books) speech sounds. It is aimed at Babies and Younger Students as well as Infants and Primary School Students. * It maybe a little dated in places as the copyright is for 1990 * The video may not be available for US format from Australia * It talks about another publication also by the NSW ed dept called It's Never Too Early to Start - it may contain other things but it is supposed to contain quote " useful material on scheduling of development which are essential for helping you to choose goals and to provide a checklist of progress " . Is this available? I haven't checked yet. * Perhaps the package available in the US has been adapted for use there. * it might be a steep learning curve - but what the heck it is for our children and we can tackle anything If I get around to it I'll find out how much it would cost to send to the US. Perhaps the $US120 may be worth it after all. If anyone has specific questions I have it until after Easter. And I hope the faxing works.
