Hullo Julee, Andy has been pretty scarce lately, so I'm more inclined than usual to answer mail addressed to him. Perhaps I should just issue a blanket statement once and for all, but I do tend to feel I'm butting in. In any case, regarding Andy's advice on how of DMSA and ALA to use, it is: 1/8 to 1/2 mg per pound of body weight per dose. If you use ONE (DMSA in your case) you use that amt. If you use both (DMSA and ALA) then you use that amt of EACH. I think you would just begin the next round at the lower dose (15 mg). But I don't think you should change in the middle of a round. Also, using Andy's suggested dose range, 15 mg would actually be " the high end " for your child. best of luck with it. Moria

Guest guest
Andy/Moria: My son started chelation 12 days ago, only did one round of DMSA only and it went great! In the meantime, we got back a stool test telling us that the Three rounds of Diflucan used for his 4+ yeast did not do a thing. My DAN doctor wants me to put chelation on hold and try a new yeast medicine. We were ready to start our second round of chelation tonight. What do you think? Isnt it the mercury that is making it so impossible for our little kids to rid this yeast? What have others done? Im ready to go ahead with my 3 days on and then on the off cycle do the yeast medicine. (not sure which one he is going to use yet). Any advice? Thanks, Luke's Mom,
Guest guest
I'd say, go for the chelation. Maybe use some anti-yeast agents (Caprystatin? coconut milk?) or some probiotics (colostrum from Kirkman's, Primal Defense, etc) on the off- days, or maybe even the on-days. But yes, they say you won't get a handle on the yeast until you get rid of the mercury. We did a long long stint of Diflucan several years ago, before we heard of chelation and when we were new to the gfcf diet. On diet, I don't think the yeast ever came back as bad, but with chelation and diet, I think we are doing even better. Guest guest
, I'm sorry that I don't know the answer to your question, but we're in the same situation. My son showed a 4+ for yeast also and he's been on Diflucan for two weeks now. One DAN Dr. told me to keep him on it for 2 weeks, take 2 weeks off and then again on for 2 more weeks and not to chelate. Another DAN Dr. (Our pediatrician) told me the same thing but to take 1 week off in between 2 two week rounds. When you mentioned rounds, was it for 4 weeks each round? Does anyone else know about the use of Diflucan at the same time as chelation? ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! This is the worst possible choice you could make. you won't be able to treat him succesfully until you detox him a bit, and there is no reason you can't do both at the same time. >We > were ready to start our second round of chelation tonight. Guest guest
Julee and Moria, Actually, I have twice reduced (in mid round) both my son's and my own dose of DMSA and had no problems whasoever in either case. In fact, it reduced the negative effects immediately. I was told to not wait by my chelation expert ..... of course by now, LOL, you are way passed that round anyway. But for others I would not hesitate to say that mid round reduction in dosing was just fine and in fact was an immediately positive thing. Guest guest
: No, my DAN doctor had my son on Diflucan 10 days on 10 days off for three rounds. So it was a stretch of 60 days 30 of which he was on the Diflucan. It didnt help at all. His yeast remained a 4+ on his stool test, so now we are getting ready to begin Sporanox. I hope it helps. I do not want to stop chelating though. I will use DMSA on the days we are not on the Sporanox. Once again we are going to do three rounds of 10 days on Sporonox and 10 days off. Has anyone out there had good Luck with healing the yeast issure with Sporonox? Have you chelated while still having yeast in the system? I just hate to waste more precious time, not chelating when I know if we get the Mercury out the gut will get better.
Guest guest
I did chelate a round or two while he had a 4+ for yeast but am stopping for awhile now. At least until we do a week off of the Diflucan and then resume with another 2 weeks on. On the off days as well as the on with Diflucan, I have been giving him Primal Defense and probiotics. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
