The upper thoracic cord presented central areas of high signal intensity on T2 weighted images. Rapid clinical recovery was correlated with resolution of abnormal enhancement. Follow-up MR at 5 months showed persistence of slight T2 prolongation in the conus medullaris and syringohydromyela of the thoracic cord. A single lesion of the spinal cord is a rare presentation of acute disseminated en! cephalomyelitis, the course of such lesions, to date not previously displayed by MR, is unknown. Proper diagnosis should help prevent administration of further vaccine doses.

I just LIE! I tell them that I am allergic to egg yolks, which is actually

true, and I have never had an influenza vaccine. and have not had

any form of influenza since the Asian Flu in the '50s--the MS revved

up immune system has at least been taking care of that for me!

This is the way I feel. I believe I've had MS since I was a child. But it was dormant most of my life. Then I was talked into having a flu shot in 1995. Within days I experienced weakness in my legs and pain in my calves. My legs weakened more and I twisted my knee badly. I was on crutches for 9 months. I got off crutches and three months later I had my huge attack of what was diagnosed as Transverse Myelitis. I haven't been without symptoms since then.

I am positive the flu shot is what triggered it. I've heard others say the same thing. For some it's other vaccines. I often think of one couple who joined the Transverse Myelitis group. Their baby was just starting to pull herself up in her crib and take a few steps. Then she had a vaccination (I think it DPT but could have been MMR). She never was able to pull herself up again. In fact she was paralyzed from the waist down. She's 9 now and there has been no improvement.

I've talked to my internist and my neurologist and they both agree that I shouldn't have any more flu shots. (as if I needed to have them agree to keep from taking any more shots....lol)

What are your thoughts?

My feelings are that "whatever I have" has also been dormant for years, only to be kicked into gear after I got the Hep vaccines and flu vax. I will NEVER do another immunization. I am afraid for my kids. My 2 oldest have problems, that I cannot tie to a specific vax. My 2 yr old seems fine. He has had all vax. My 11 month old has had none and I am terrified. trista

Both of my children have been vaced and there is alot of research that refutes the fact that autism is caused by vacs it just happens that the first signs show up about the same time as their 18 month shot, the same time as children become mobile. As a nurse I weighed the risks(Kaleb was & 1/2 and already dxed when Meg was born) At the same time, there was an outbreak of whooping cough in our area. It seemed best for me to vaccinate. I think that each of us has a different reaction to this sort of thing. I did not see anything that would point to a specific vax with my own 2 boys with Autism and AS. But, I do know of some children that showed remarkable differences in abilities and behavior coinciding with the MMR vax. Certain children have gone from interacting with others to no interaction or even acknowledgement of their own parents. Some went from crawling or walking, to not doing so, directly after their vax. Do I think that every child has a problem with vax? No. Do I think some have been damaged by vax? Yes. The truth is, it isn't proven one way or another. And as a mother of 2 boys with special needs, I'm not willing to knowingly give my younger children a vax, that might disable them. I have to weigh it all out. I do not agree that the signs show up about the same time as children become mobile, therefore making it "seem" as if it was the vax that was responsible. My children were mobile way earlier than 18 months for one, and for another, there are other signs one can see from early infancy. A baby will smile and coo, and mimic sounds. There have been cases of children losing speech and communication that they already had. And lost functions they already had.

I am also a nurse, which is why I had the Hep A & Heb B shots. I had the flu shot at the same time. I can pinpoint that specific time, when I became ill. I wish I could go back and change it. I would have never had those vax.

I do agree that it all depends on our immune system. I think we all need to weigh the risks of vax or no vax. One thing I am sure of, is "Herd Immunity", means nothing to a parent who has had a child disabled, or who died from a vaccination. As a parent, I am most concerned with my child, not the whole herd.

My son was developing normally. He got his vac. I had NO CHOICE or I would NOT have done it. HE got ill and was hospitalized immediately after, and from that point on, did not speak until he was 4 1/2. Can you still say there is NO PROOF? Tell THAT to my son.

Both of my children have been vaced and there is alot of research that refutes the fact that autism is caused by vacs it just happens that the first signs show up about the same time as their 18 month shot, the same time as children become mobile.

As a nurse I weighed the risks(Kaleb was & 1/2 and already dxed when Meg was born) At the same time, there was an outbreak of whooping cough in our area. It seemed best for me to vaccinate. A single lesion of the spinal cord is a rare presentation of acute disseminated en! cephalomyelitis, the course of such lesions, to date not previously displayed by MR, is unknown. Proper diagnosis should help prevent administration of further vaccine doses.

I agree Akiba. A parent can see the regression. It angers me when the "experts" try to say that it's just a coincidence that happened around the time of the vax. That is crap. Oh they know all right. His Dr as much as admitted it last visit. AS have others he has seen. The only ones that are NOT taking responsibility are the ones who administered the poison. And the Government.

Robbin, all in all, is not that bad, not when I compare him to others in the same boat. I feel we are singularly Blessed in that.

He eats well, is not picky, goes to bed at 9-10, has slept all night since he was a very wee one, he is a very good loving little boy and Extremely intelligent. He taught himself to read and write at 3-4 by putting the TV on closed caption (also taught himself to do that) and can out-type me!

Hi Sharon,

I'm exactly like you. My MS was dormant until I had the flue shot in 1995 too.

There is no doubt in my mind that the flu shot "triggered" my first attack. Interestingly I've had most neuoro's tell me to get them, I won't. Seems like some neuro's are for it and some agree not to get them. I know that I know my body better than the Joe Blow neuro and I'm gonna listen to myself.

I won't have my daughter get one. Hmmmm.....I'm gonna go back to read what shot she had to have to go to college. She has had MS symptoms for about 9 months now and my neuro recommended that I have her get an MRI. I know a lot of people that get the flue shot and that is great so please don't be offended, I just personally won't get one.

This is the way I feel. I believe I've had MS since I was a child. But it was dormant most of my life. Then I was talked into having a flu shot in 1995. Within days I experienced weakness in my legs and pain in my calves. My legs weakened more and I twisted my knee badly. I was on crutches for 9 months. I got off crutches and three months later I had my huge attack of what was diagnosed as Transverse Myelitis. I haven't been without symptoms since then.

I am positive the flu shot is what triggered it. I've heard others say the same thing. For some it's other vaccines. I often think of one couple who joined the Transverse Myelitis group. Their baby was just starting to pull herself up in her crib and take a few steps. Then she had a vaccination (I think it DPT but could have been MMR). She never was able to pull herself up again. In fact she was paralyzed from the waist down. She's 9 now and there has been no improvement.

I've talked to my internist and my neurologist and they both agree that I shouldn't have any more flu shots. (as if I needed to have them agree to keep from taking any more shots....lol)

What are your thoughts?

Thank you for this, Darlene. I think that each of us has to make this

decision for our selves. I am not well enough to travel much, and

at present am refusing all vaccines with any form of mercury in them. I sent a research site on this earlier to the list. I admire your

fortitude! I am on lists for three conditions that I have and this has

become an issue on ALL THREE lists--and for the same reasons.

I didn't mean to upset anyone, I was just saying that I had read alot of the research before I had Meg done, I did Kaleb because I was young and didn't know that some people could have side effects. And at the time I had no familial history(that I knew of) of neurological disorders.(my ex is adopted) Then it turned out 5 years later my ex was bipolar.Every person should have the right to make the choice that's right for their family and not be pressured by their drs or nurses to do otherwise. I just decided to do Meg cause like I said, me and my son have poor immunity systems. And she's been the healthiest of all of us.(the little stinker) Again, I'm sorry if anyone thought I was being judgemental. But I've always respected my patients decision if they chose not to. Some people have better in=mmune systems than others. My son and I have both had chicken pox twice and shingles. He had shingles at the age of 5, the youngest case his dermatologist had ever seen. In other words, Me and Kaleb cannot fight of the herpes zoster virus. Meg can't

fight of MRSA on skin infections. Maybe it all tracts down to our immune systems. I didn't feel you were judgmental at all, and I guess that since my sweet son was victim to man's stupidity and arrogance I might be a wee bit on the defensive side. On the brighter side, I'll never have to worry about him being drafted!!

This is the way I feel. I believe I've had MS since I was a child. But it was dormant most of my life. Then I was talked into having a flu shot in 1995. Within days I experienced weakness in my legs and pain in my calves. My legs weakened more and I twisted my knee badly. I was on crutches for 9 months. I got off crutches and three months later I had my huge attack of what was diagnosed as Transverse Myelitis. I haven't been without symptoms since then.

I am positive the flu shot is what triggered it. I've heard others say the same thing. For some it's other vaccines. I often think of one couple who joined the Transverse Myelitis group. Their baby was just starting to pull herself up in her crib and take a few steps. Then she had a vaccination (I think it DPT but could have been MMR). She never was able to pull herself up again. In fact she was paralyzed from the waist down. She's 9 now and there has been no improvement.

I've talked to my internist and my neurologist and they both agree that I shouldn't have any more flu shots. (as if I needed to have them agree to keep from taking any more shots....lol)

In the acute stage the appearance was an isolated myelitis of the conus medullaris with contrast enhancement. The upper thoracic cord presented central areas of high signal intensity on T2 weighted images. Rapid clinical recovery was correlated with resolution of abnormal enhancement. Follow-up MR at 5 months showed persistence of slight T2 prolongation in the conus medullaris and syringohydromyela of the thoracic cord. A single lesion of the spinal cord is a rare presentation of acute disseminated en! cephalomyelitis, the course of such lesions, to date not previously displayed by MR, is unknown. Proper diagnosis should help prevent administration of further vaccine doses.

Nor to me either. On the contrary, I often fear I've pushed my anti-vaccine views on others. We all have ideas, thoughts and reasons behind our actions. I welcome the views of others.

Hmmm...never correlated MS to the Hep vac before. But it's very

interesting. I had a bad reaction to my first Hep B vac and never

returned for my second. I can pin point my first symptoms to within

six months of this shot. Interesting. Oh well...guess we will

never know and understand.
