Guest guest
I am on the provera shot. You get the shot once every 3 months. I spotted for the first 6 months, but I haven't had a period for over a year now. I've been on it for 1 1/2 years. I didn't like it at first but now I think it is a lifesaver. Guest guest
Hi all, I had my worst bleeding on Thanks Giving day. 3 to 5 super+ tampons every hour, for several hours. My doctor told me I either go to the emergency hospital, or try Provera, I chose the pill, and the bleeding did slow down to every hour a tampon, every 2 hours, and then every 3-4 hours. Mon. after the holiday, I went to see him, and asked if i could take this pill only if I bleed, he said, yes, I can try. He suggested to take it for 7 days, when I have my period, or only when I bleed heavily.( that's the most, 7 days per month) Has anyone tried that? or took provera for bleeding? I will appreciate any comments about this pill. Thanks so much, Annie, NY
Guest guest
Annie, I had very heavy bleeding at the beginning of November -- using an ultra tampon (next size up from super+), I was changing it every 1 to 2 hours for 5 days. On the 5th day I talked to my gynecologist and he put me on provera twice a day (10mg) until the bleeding slowed down and then once a day for 20 days (my 20 days will be up on Sunday). it did slow down the bleeding. it also has made this period extremely strange with intermittent bleeding and clots. Taking it for only 7 days a month is interesting. Let me know how that goes and if it seems to help ongoing without side effects. Robyn A. My doctor told me I either go to the emergency hospital, or try Provera, I chose the pill, and the bleeding did slow down to every hour a tampon, every 2 hours, and then every 3-4 hours. Guest guest
I have taken Provera for bleeding but not on this type of schedule. At first I was on Prometruim and took it for 14 days,I beieve, out of every month. That broke down and I went to 10mgs of Provera everyday.I was told that when I had bleeding to discontinue the pills for 7 days and then resume. That worked well from Feb to July and then it broke down.I was glad,by that time, that I had surgery scheduled for the end of July. Guest guest
I took provera for 10 days per month (days 16-25 of my cycle) for 11 years. It did help to control bleeding. I don't know about taking it " as needed " . Carol __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I agree with Carol's assessment 100%. I feel the same way about being on provera. Guest guest
Hi Robin, Thanks so much for your response. I will let you know how it goes taking the provera for only 7 days a month, when I get my period. My friend was also taking it twice a day, and when I asked the doctor who was covering my own doctor, if to take twice a day, she said, no, that it was too much, and that I was too small, ( I am about a 100 lbs.) May I ask you how you felt taking 2 of them a day, and if you dont mind me asking, are you also a petite woman? :-) Thanks so much, Annie, NY
Guest guest
Hi carol, How did you feel when taking the provera, and I understand you took it after your period for 10 days, right? ( you say days 16-25 of the cycle) Thanks so much, Annie, NY
Guest guest
Annie, I am not a petite woman (175 lbs, about 40 lbs overweight). I only took 2 a day for a very short period of time when we were trying to get my bleeding stopped (maybe 4 days) and did not really feel any noticeable symptoms (though I am dealing with depression anyway -- one of the side effects -- so it would be hard to know if that was just my regular stuff or coming from the drug). I have not noticed any side effects from being on 1 per day (just finished my last one yesterday). I'll see what it is like when I am off it. Robyn A. Guest guest
Annie, The 10 days of each month when I took Provera were usually the best days of the month for me. My mood stabilized and I felt like I had more energy. I have never had my hormone levels checked, but I think that my estrogen level stayed pretty high most of the time. My gyn told me that often when fibroids are in an actively growing phase they will not only grow from the estrogen already present in your body, they will also start producing their own supply of estrogen. The Provera seemed to help " balance " things out. Since my UAE I have not taken Provera. I don't know if I will have to go on it again or not. I have a follow up appointment next week. I suppose I will find out then. Carol __________________________________________________
