I tried herbs, diet, and progesterone cream for 6 months. I saw no change,

no shrinkage, nothing.

I can't remember all the herbs, but I found an herbalist in another state

through my cousin who had me taking 12 pills 2 X per day, stuff for the

liver/mulitvitamin/etc, 2 teas 2 X per day, no flour/dairy/or corn based

foods for the diet. The only thing that worked was the progesterone cream

stopped by blood clots. I tried progesterone cream alone for 3 months, the

blood clots stopped. I added the diet and herbs for the next 6 months. The

Ultrasounds I had every 3 months showed NO changes in my 10cm fibroid.

Finally I stopped the diet, continued the pills and progesterone cream for 3

months. No changes. Finally I had a UAE, 2 cm shrinkage after 3 months.

I'd hate to say this, but the natural road didn't do anything for me. And

it was very hard watching my diet, making the teas, and taking all those

pills.

- Good luck.

treating/shrinking fibroids naturally

I have a large fibroid for a couple of hears, and it's

only been a problem (bleeding for the past few

months). I am into a natural lifestyle and want to

avoid surgery under all costs. The fibroid is large,

and I would probably need a hyst. Have any of you

used natural treatments to shrink them. I stopped the

bleeding almost immediately (after 3 solid months)

using cotton root tincture (available in Health food

stores) and other herbs as well as acupuncture

treatments. Problem is the bleeding started again

within a couple of weeks. What do you know about diet

etc? Thanks, barbara

No change also means - no growth. So, perhaps the natural treatments were

working. . . . .

Why do you think that you would need a hyst? If you

read the archives of this list you will see that many

women have had myo's for large and/or numerous

fibroids. There is also the option of UAE. It seems

that if you could actually shrink fibroids " naturally "

that none of us would be here!

Barbara, there is a e-group on Yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com) called

HealingFromFibroidsNaturally that explores this question often. I have not

heard of much success in general in shrinking large fibroids using complementary

(alternative) medicine. I have heard of some success and I have had some in

lessening symptoms. And you do hear of some success stories. I would search

the archive there and also put more details in of what you have done in on that

group. I'd like to hear more. Robyn A.

I have a question regarding this:) How many women had Myo's and their

fibroids grew back? Also, if they did grow back and cause problems again how

long was that after the myomectomy? Thanks.

Hi, Barbara

I have 5 fiborids, tha largest of which is 2.8cm. They are not considered

very large. I discussed changing my diet to reduce fiborid size with my

doctor and then to have an ultrasound to monitor this.

His immediate response was that the effect would not occur for at least one

to two years. It would be a very gradual process. He therefore recommended

not having the first ultrasound for at least one year.

It appears that fibroid growth is dependent on Oestrogen levels. The changes

you need to make will be related to this. Nutritional factors can influence

hormone levels.

Changing to a diet high in fibre and low in saturated (animal) fats can

lower oestrogen levels.

Vitamin B appears to be necessary in the breakdown of oestrogen by the

liver.

If you are overweight, You should look at reducing your body weight. Excess

fatty tissue turns certain hormones into a form of oestrogen. Also, body fat

itself poroduces oestrogen. Taking off extra kilos is not easy, but it is

something over which you have control . Some exercise will help.

Phytoestrogens in soya products. Phytoestrogens are compounds found in

plants which are chemically similar to oestrogens, and which are capable of

binding to the same receptors in oestrogens.

In some cases, the phytoestrogens will not only be similar enough to

oestrogens to bind to the oestrogen receptors, but they will fool the

receptors into thinking they are the real thing. The receptors will give

off the signals which start the cascade of events that would normally be

started by a real oestrogen. These phytoestrogens are acting like

oestrogens.

In other cases, the phytoestrogens will bind to the oestrogen receptors, but

not start off the cascade of events we might expect. jBut because they have

bound to the receptors, they stop other oestrogens in the body from binding

there. The oestrogen receptors are bieng used, but not producing oestrogen

effects. In effect, the phytoestrogens in this case are blocking the

effects of oestrogen on the body.

Alcohol intake also raises oestrogen levels.

There is another post you might like to look up, which links caffeine

consumption with oestrogen levels.

Over the past 6 mnths, I have tried to implement the above. I have

eliminated coffee completely. I do not know my fibroid size but the

following are the improvemnets I have noted.

- Previously, I had fairly severely cramps during my period which lasted

only a day, but the pain was similar to being in child labour. I only had

very mild cramps during my last period.

- My heavy bleeding during my period appears to have improved as well. I

have less clots and smaller clots.

- My Pre menstrual tension appears to have improved as well

Over these 5 months, I have lost 5 kgs but need to lose another 2 to 3 kgs.

kThese seem to be the hardest to lose.

I hope this helps you.

Regards, Anne

I have had 2 myomectomies-I am repeating myself, but if archives are not checked

the I guess I have

to-

Anyway,I had my 1st surgery when I was 30.It was a very small thing.I had a

wonderful doctor,he has

since changed specialities and moved away.

When I was about 38 or so they had grown back to about a 14 week size.I watched

and waited and then

they got very big in my mid-40's.I had a 2nd myomectomy just last July in which

38 fibroids weighing

close to 6 lbs. were removed.I am now 50.

I do not regret either surgery. Both were very easy for me,in fact a lot easier

than dealing with the

resistance I got from the medical profession.

To whom ever is asking the question about hysterectomy and why not.I plead with

you to do a LOT of

research before you take this step.I have been researching this on and off for

many years.I just

attended the HERS conference in Philadelphia and let me tell you the stories of

women who have

undergone this are so terrible. The uterus plays many roles including contracting

during orgasm.Would

you like to lose sexual pleasure for eternity?

Best,

Bonnie

My efforts at natural treatments have been unsuccessful. I tried

acupuncture 3 years but had to have a myomectomy anyway.

Unfortunately I have recently had regrowth. I went to a naturopath

who prescribed dietary changes, herbs, and supplements. She helped me

resolve other health issues but the fibroid growth has continued.

You should not avoid surgery at all costs nor should you accept the

opinion that you must have a hysterectomy. I suggest reading the

books The Hysterectomy Hoax by Dr. Stanley West and Sex, Lies and the

Truth about Uterine Fibroids by Carla Dionne.

Keep reading the posts in this group. There are alternatives such as

UAE and various types of myomectomies. There is a healing fibroids

naturally group in case you are interested.

I can't find reliable stats on rates of regrowth. My doctor says a

20% risk.

In addition to the loss of sexual function there are many health

risks. The uterus regulates blood pressure and the thyroid. A friend

of mine had a hysterectomy after a cancer diagnosis. She has since

suffered from dangerously high blood pressure and a complete loss of

thyroid function.

I am schedule for a myo but am seriously considering a hyst. I don't want

children My thyroid was removed 4 years ago. I've always had perfect blood

pressure. More importantly I don't want to go through a 2nd myo. It seems

like most women I've talked to have had more then 1 or have had fibroids

grow back and their just managing with them. Which I just want them gone.

I know 6 women personally who had hyst. and haven't experience any of these

problems. However I know its better to leave this world with everything you

were born with. I just think in some cases a hyst. is a necessary evil.

My largest fibroid is 19cm that grew to that over 8 months.

After reading so many post it seems like a lot of people experience terrible

sytoms with some haveing relatively small fibriods ie. back and hip pain

cramping headaches etc..

I feel fortunte I have a 19cm fibriod for 8 monthsd now. I experience

extreme periods 15 days or more became anemic (5.2 hemo) I'm now 11.2

hemoglobin. Since then I did take the Lupron shot to stop my periods and

shrink the fibroid. My periods have stopped my tumor has not shrunk at all.

E\xcept for hot falashed I haven't had any other pain or annoying symptoms.

I am scheduled for a myo (Jan 10 ) I am considering having a hyst. insted

though. I have change my mind back and forth numerous times I guess I won't

know till they wheel me in.

Kind Regards
