Guest guest
Dear , I was very interested in what you wrote. When I was first diagnosed with Lupus in 1997 at age 25 you can imagine we all freaked out. I went to several specialist that my parents ended up paying out of pocket for because my mother refused to believe that this was in fact the right diagnosis. I traveled to Austin and san and Houston to see doctors all at my mothers persistence. When it was finally decided that we were going to accept this and start with treatment my mom started to research alternative medicine and it's benefits. To get the lupus under control in the very beginning I took the heavy duty medication just for a short time. I went to herbal pharmacists who helped out and then referred us to an ND and then I had a dietician that help to develop a diet that would help decrease the inflammation and discomfort. I will tell you that it was very expensive. I took and drank so many different things, but I swear by it. I truly believed that is what helped me get into remission and stay in remission. I take for granted my good health now and have become lax in the supplements I take. I felt so good about all that I was doing to combat my Lupus I would love to learn more about anything that I could do to aid with fertility. Thanks for all the info. I hope you are feeling better!! I've been studying plant and herbal remedies on my own for about 12 years and have been working with a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner for about 7 or 8 years. Its my experience that TCM and naturopathy have offered me a lot that I wasn't getting through traditional western medicine. I used to have chronic sinus infections and spent the winter on antibiotics. After starting acupuncture and herbs, I haven't had a sinus infection in six years. I also had a pre-ulcer condition and was taking Zantac daily; after acupuncture this has completely disappeared. Also, I had extremely short periods, I'd bleed for a day tops; nice when you're not trying to get pregnant, but not good if you are. Accupuncture and herbs helped get more periods more on track and greatly reduced my PMS. There are intricacies about the body that alternative medicine can detect. For example, my bbts are a bit higher than those you'd see in TCOYF, but still follow a textbook pattern. My RE looks at those and sees great looking temps. My accupuncturist looks at those and sees a great pattern, but a body temp that might be too warm for implantation to occur. Through simple treatment with herbs and accupuncture, my bbts have come down slightly, still show a perfect pattern, but are not as hot. Poor blood flow at menses wasn't a concern for my OB, but from a Chinese perspective it means that the blood isn't as rich and doesn't flow as well as it should to sustain a pregnancy. Alternative medicine sees a profound connection between body, spirit and mind. I often get as much emotional healing from TCM as I do physical support. When choosing to do alternative medicine, its important to make an informed choice, just like one should when choosing a western doc. In this day and age alternative medicine has become quite a fad and a big money maker. Its important to work with someone who has a good reptutation and is credible. Ask the practitioner lots of questions about training, success rate with patients, etc. just like you would with any other doctor. Also, I strongly caution people against taking herbs without talking with someone knowledgeable about the herbs first. Its possible to buy herbs over the counter that are equally strong to medications that one could only get via prescription, so its important to know what they can do and what the side effects are. There are dozens of herbs that support fertility and pregnancy that I've researched and discussed with natural phramacists that I'd be happy to share if anyone's interested, but again its important to remember that herbs are medicines and to treat them as such. Yoga is a great practice. I hope you really find enjoyment in it. Its not only good for one's emotional well-being, its has lots of physcial benefits. However, there are some yoga poses best not done after ovulation if your're trying to get pregnant and during pregnancy. I'd avoid any inverted poses as they can disrupt the correct flow of eggs through the tubes and disrupt implantation. I'd ask your instructor how knowledgeable s/he is about yoga and pregnancy or ttc. If s/he isn't very knowledgeable or gives a pat answer like "oh, it no problem" I'd recommend getting a book or video on yoga during pregnancy to get more information. *************************** & Jani mailto:newmoon@... moms to Rowan, born 6/26/98 (19 months old) three spirit babies: Cassidy, m/c 8/99 Mandy, m/c 10/99 Keegan, ectopic pregnancy, 1/00 eGroups.com Home: /group/ectopicpregnancywww. - Simplifying group communications

Thanks to folks who sent kind messages; believe me they are really helpful. The sun is shining here today, which helps a lot. I got a good night's sleep last night. I think I've found a therapist who will both challenge and support me. I'm finally getting something accomplished at work which I feel good about. I'm also learning to remember that those down days will come, but hopefully further and further apart. *************************** & Jani mailto:newmoon@... moms to Rowan, born 6/26/98 (19 months old) three spirit babies: Cassidy, m/c 8/99 Mandy, m/c 10/99 Keegan, ectopic pregnancy, 1/
Guest guest
, I'm happy to hear that you had success in getting rid of your sinus infections. I usually get them a couple of times a year. I don't take antibiotics because the sinus problems will eventually clear up. I've just gotten used to it. Where I live (St. Louis) many people have the same trouble. It has a lot to do with our weather. I would love to find something that makes them a thing of the past. I like to hear about alternative medicine and acupuncture. I wish more drs would take things like that a little more seriously since it seems to work. I also wish I could articulate my thoughts like you and do. Usually what I write isn't exactly what I wanted to say. That's why I don't respond to a lot of posts. I want to but I don't like the idea of putting my foot in my mouth in front of this many people! Take care, L
Guest guest
L: I think you do a great job at expressing yourself. If its any consolation, I often feel as if I have not articulated myself well when I post - especially on subjects that relate to my ep experience or my babies. Guest guest
, I never feel as though you put your foot in your mouth. Actually most of your posts are very interesting and, at times, make me smile. But I know how you feel, I often feel the same way. As far as alternative healing, I believe in this 100%. Alternative medicine combined with the help from my perinatal specialist got me to 32 weeks in a pregnancy that I believe I otherwise would not have gotten to. Guest guest
Thanks Stacey. It's amazing to me that despite all the modern medical stuff we have, we seem to be going back to the old ways. They must have been onto something back then. I think it's wonderful that you got to 32 weeks. It's a tribute to doctors that don't just practice textbook medicine. Take care, L
