Guest guest
Dear Kim, Thanks a lot for your reply. Your fibroid growing after you stopped bleeding is interesting to me - I thought that once you stopped bleeding/reached menopause your fibroids were unlikely to grow! I do understand though that hormones can make them grow - but at what stage of menopause do they not continue to grow?? Actually this is freaking me out as I am in wait and watch and would love to think that the symptoms would get less/disappear as you go through menopause!! I hope to avoid HRT as I have a history of blood clots, but I just don't know what will happen when I get to that stage of having to make a choice.. What have the doctors told you about myo - if you have it, and afterwards say, you go back on HRT, is there a possibility of it growing back? What was your situation before you started menopause? Direct me to any earlier postings you've made if you like! Thanks very much for any input, as I know there are others out there waiting for menopause, hoping to get through..... Best, Mandy > Mandy, In response to your questions-- I started menopause at 47 and stopped bleeding completely in about 6 months. Felt great except for hot flashes. My ob/gyn put me on prempro at 48. One year later, I was diagnosed with a 12cm pedunculated fibroid. I stopped the HRT(prempro) immed. against the docs advise. Took the wait and see approach. Now I'm 51, fibroid is still there and I have the typical pains associated with it. (bladder pressure, back ache, some shooting pains down leg at night) I'm thinking myo soon because the wait and see approach in my case is getting old. My new Internist wants me to go back on HRT(prempro) but I'm too afraid that it will cause the fibroid to grow. Wish you luck. Guest guest
I also thought if I could somehow possibly hang on until menopause the fibroid would go away. I had another checkup yesterday and it appears that mine is growing rapidly. Was 16-17 weeks less than a month ago and now is 18 weeks. Of course doc wants to do a hysterectomy and he said it could not be done vaginally. I have not consented to it. > >Reply-To: uterinefibroids >To: <uterinefibroids > >Subject: Re; digest 579 >Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:48:26 +1000 > > Dear Kim, > >Thanks a lot for your reply.
