But you do learn to live with it. good luck... foot drop I have for the last 3 days had some weakness in leg and I am now having a hard time walking and I did some research and found that maybe its foot drop. Guest guest
Have you heard of Clawson Rockers? They're shoes made for people with MS who have slight mobility issues. I tried them a few years ago, but I was too far past walking at that time. If you're mobile, these might work for you. I had foot drop that has since corrected. http://www.clawsonrocker.com/ Ortega wrote: I have been suffering from foot-drop for a few years now. I got a brace to help hold up my foot. Guest guest
My foot brace, or orthotic, is an " L " shaped piece of plastic that straps to my calf and runs underneath my foot. The orthotic was custom made for my foot and calf. It helped for a while when the problem was only the foot not working correctly. Now my hip / thigh muscles no longer pull up my thigh to make a step. It's difficult to walk up hill with the orthotic, as the foot doesn't pull up. In retrospect, it might be nice to have an orthotic that has an adjustable angle? > > I have been suffering from foot-drop for a few years now. I got a brace to help hold up my foot. Guest guest
Dr's can't do anything other than send you to a knoledgable physical therapist. I just started PT and they found some substantial muscle weakness in several of my leg muscle groups. Work on strength! > > I have for the last 3 days had some weakness in leg and I am now > having a hard time walking and I did some research and found that > maybe its foot drop. Guest guest
What is foot drop and how do you know that you have it?  I never had it but my wife who is having balance and neurological problems but hasn't been diagnosed with MS has a stiff foot/ankle, tends to point down, ankle doesn't work right, has some pain when stand on it.  Is that consistent with foot drop? Guest guest
For me, foot drop was when my right foot-toes could not be moved towards my knee. This resulted in the front of my right shoe being scuffed off. My brace locks my foot, pointed slightly up, in place. As long as my hip muscles could pick my knee up, everything was good. Lately, I can no longer pick my right knee up. the foot brace also makes it a hassle to drive, get in and out of the car, stand straight up in church, etc. Maybe it's time to revisit the brace? > > > > What is foot drop and how do you know that you have it? > >  I never had it but my wife who is having balance and neurological problems but hasn't been diagnosed with MS has a stiff foot/ankle, tends to point down, ankle doesn't work right, has some pain when stand on it.  Is that consistent with foot drop? > > Bernie > > > >
Guest guest
When I was still mobile I had foot-drop too. (Bernie, foot-drop is usually when one foot trails behind you, dragging on the floor as you can't lift it up high enough to make a normal step.) One exercise that works well for that is to stand holding on to something then in turn lift each leg straight up, bending at the knee. I see a CST osteopath who is working on both my worst foot and my knee (which decides to lean inwards if I try and exercise on my foot exerciser). CST is slow but I have seen some improvements. However, they are dealing with a condition that has gradually worsened over 13 years. I would have thought it worthwhile for people, who have foot drop but can still walk, trying CST. I have seen another device advertised www.musemate.co.uk Janet
Guest guest
I think another related symptom is scissoring where your feet cross each other when walking. It's difficult to move forward without tripping yourself. I had that too, along with the foot drop. I have neither now. I don't walk without parallel bars, but even with those, putting one foot in front of the other is possible now where it would not have been a few years ago. I haven't tried using the walker in several months, but I feel that I could. One thing that helped with the scissoring was a machine at my chiropractor's office. I can't recall the name, but it was a retraining bed that moves the legs in the direction that they're supposed to move. It was to help the leg and torso muscles remember their function.
