Guest guest
My doctor said that studies have shown (for treatment of fibroids) that 6 months has the same benefits as 3 months. I took a Calcium / Vitamin D supplement while on the Lupron to help my bones. > Hi- > Im hoping to get some advice on lupron. Guest guest
Kim, It is hard to say if Lupron will put you at greater risk for osteoporosis later in life, but it might. Ask your doctor for a Dexa Scan now. Again, I believe we really underplay doing baseline tests. They give us such good information. If we are supposed to be making informed decisions, then the more informed we are, the better our decisions are. You may have to convince your doctor to write the script and you may want to call your insurance co. to make sure they will pay for it. They often have guidelines for paying for expensive tests and it could very well be that your doctor will have to write a letter of " medical necessity " for your insurance co. Anyways, call and find out for yourself. In the end, it seems almost everything is up to us, the patients. To understand your own personal risk for osteoporosis, you should know what the risk factors are. Some of them include small skeletal frame, excessive smoking, and excessive caffeine. The National Osteoporosis Foundation has an excellent website which gives great information on the subject. E-mail me personally if you want. I just did a talk on osteoporosis last night at our local Man to Man meeting.........Jan
