Guest guest
IF THERE IS SOMEBODY OUT THERE WHO HAS HAD UAE AND WAS THEN ABLE TO GO ON AND HAVE A BABY PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I AM 28 YEARS OLD AND JUST GOT MARRIED IN MAY OF THIS YEAR. WE BOTH WANTED A BABY IN THE WORST WAY. I FOUND OUT I HAVE AN 11CM FIBROID AND I HAVE TO GET THE SOB TAKEN OUT BEFORE I CAN HAVE A BABY. I AM NOT SURE IF I WANT TO OPT FOR MYO OR UAE. NEITHER ONE SOUNDS LIKE A BOWL FULL OF CHERRIES. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES ABOUT FERTILITY W/ EITHER PROCEDURE. I AM JUST SEARCHING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET PREGNANT AND CARRY A BABY AND DELIVER A HEALTHY BABY AFTER EITHER ONE OF THESE PROCEDURES. PLEASE RESPOND IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE!!! THANK YOU!!! A FIBROID HATER __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Kristi i really can't help you, but i did have a myo on 9-6 and everything is going very well in fact i go back to work this next thursday. My doctor told me that i would have to wait 6months before i could try to have a baby. I have not heard but i have also read that for a woman who has (a) fibroid(s) that a myo is the best way to go. No i believe that in ladies home journal not to long ago i read that for a woman who has fibroid(s) and is wanting to have children that a UAE is not the way to go. Guest guest
Dear Kristi, Although I am not somebody who has had a baby after UAE, I am an Interventional Radiology nurse clinician with a fibroid, and has experienced two late term pregnancy losses unrelated to the fibroid. I consider myself both an expert in fibroid related issues, and an advocate for women who want children. I know the pain of wanting somthing so much, especially when it seems unattainable. I see many women who are in your same predicament. I will tell you what Dr. Siskin and I tell all the women we see with your story. Yes, there has been reported cases of pregnancy after UAE; however, this procedure should only be considered after you see a reputable Reproductive Endocrinologist regarding myomectomy. A reproductive endocrinologist is someone who specializes in infertility and complicated pregnancy related issues. This persons success is dependant solely on getting women pregnant, who may otherwise not be able to without his/her help. They help provide and optimal enironment for both conception and growth. In someone with a fibroid as large as yours, both the conception and the growth of the fetus may be affected. An RE will give you his/her opinion of the success or failure of having a myomectomy in your paticular case. If this person believes that by doing a myomectomy, they will not be able to save enough healthy uterine tissue for you to get pregnant, they will tell you and then UAE may still be an option. The bottom line is, you should completely rule out myomectomy first. There is simply not enough evidence regarding UAE efficacy as it relates to fertility and pregnancy. I sympathize with your situation, both from my personal experiences and the experiences of the women I see weekly. Good luck with whatever you choose. My thoughts are with you. Meo, R.N. Guest guest
Thank you for the information. I am trying to locate a Dr. who can help me out w/ this situation. The first dr. I went to who found the fibroid sent me for an ultrasound and MRI. She put me on Lupron shots before the MRI was even conducted. I have read horror stories about Lupron and I am not so sure that I want to ruin my body to shrink this fibroid. She wanted to perform the myomectomy but I don't think I want her to do the surgery. I have gone for a 2nd opinion and he pretty much stated the same facts as the first dr. I have talked to a dr. out in Phila area that does the UAE. He wants to meet w/ me before making any kind of recommendation. Unfortunately, my husband's insurance only covers Central PA so I am trying to locate a dr. at Hershey Med instead. This fibroid I have is 11cm and located in the fundus of my uterus. It's very uncomfortable. My MAIN concern though is being able to get pregnant and carry a baby. Do you know if it's possible to do this w/ such a large fibroid. From what I have read, I would HAVE to get it removed. Thanks for the words of wisdom. I am hoping I can just find somebody who will tell me what I need to do. I thought for sure the UAE was for me but I don't want to ruin my fertility. I am a little leary of myo because I know they might end up taking your entire uterus if there are complications. Thank you again and I will let you know how it goes. Guest guest
Thank you for the information. I am undecided about myo vs. UAE. Were you even considering UAE? You are 28 also? I just want a baby and then I don't care about my uterus. Well I should not say don't care but I will not be as worried. I just want to do what's best to maintain my fertility. How big was the fibroid you had removed? Mine is the size of a grapefruit. Did the dr. think it was odd that you had a fibroid at your age? I keep reading that mostly occurs in women over 30 and later. I know UAE is less evasive than myo but if I can't get preg than it defeats the purpose. Did they put you on Lupron to shrink the fibroid? If so .. for how long? Guest guest
I just had a myo 6 days ago and I am already doing great. My fibroid is about the same size as yours and also at the fundal position. If you have a good doctor, the surgery is trivial. I worried about the same thing before the myo as you. Now I realize that it is really not a big deal. All 8 doctors I have seen before the surgery none of them recommmended UAE for me because of the fertility reason. There are no proving records that what UAE will do to you. Guest guest
Did you have to take Lupron to shrink the fibroid prior to having surgery? I am very scared of that stuff. My dr. wants to shrink it as much as possible before trying to remove it. This does make sense to me but the treatment is so harsh. Do you live in PA? I am having a hard time finding a good dr. You saw 8 doctors before you made your decision? That is so nice to hear because I thought I was crazy and I've only seen 2 so far. I have 3 more to go. Thank you for sharing your information w/ me. I do appreciate it. Kristi --- lizhang20@... wrote: > I just had a myo 6 days ago and I am already doing > great. My fibroid > is about the same size as yours and also at the > fundal position. Guest guest
Lupron has its own side effects that you may want to check out on the Lupron Victims website. Also,if there are smaller fibroids it may shrink them to a size where your surgeon may not be able to see them any more while he is operating. Then you can experience re-growth after the drug is dis-continued. I had surgery in PA with Dr. Glassner in Paoli, you may want to check him out for yourself. Best, Bonnie Kristi wrote: > Did you have to take Lupron to shrink the fibroid > prior to having surgery? Guest guest
The large one i have is about simlilar size as yours and the doctor did find two more fibroids during the surgery. They were about 1 and 0.5 cm. We did not know that before the myo. Sorry, I meant " sticker " ... Dr. told me this and he meant lupron made the removal of the firboid more difficult. I feel fortunate that I did not use the lupron since it will make the two tiny ones disappear and cause me problems in the future. -Li > > > > > > Dear Kristi, > > > > > > > > > > > > Although I am not somebody who has had a > > > > baby > > > > > > after UAE, I am an > > > > > > Interventional Radiology nurse clinician > > with a > > > > > > fibroid, and has experienced > > > > > > two late term pregnancy losses unrelated to > > the > > > > > > fibroid.
