Guest guest
Is there anyone out there who is in their 50's and who have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids. I am 57 and have an 8 inch fibroid 13 cm in the uterine wall. One gyne wanted to do a hysterectomy immediately but then said I should wait a month and do another ultrasound and if it did not grow we could wait. Another gyne thought I had leiomyosarcoma but then changed his mind and said that I have had an enlarged uterus and probably this fibroid since 1996. He now says to take a wait and see approach. I am going to see a gyne oncologist in 10 days for a 3rd opinion. What aboutthis wait and see approach. Would the pressure of the fibroid shut down your kidneys and other organs. I had 21 days of pain in th pelvic area. Does this mean part or al of the fibroid was loosing its blood supply--my other gynes say they dont know. As you can tell I am very worried about this situation. For now I feel fine - no more pain. It would be nice to know if there was someone else out there like me. Guest guest
Just so you know... 13 cm is barely over 5 " -- not 8 " . Guest guest
Hello I saw your comment on blood loss re myomectomy, I wanted to pass on to you that I had a myomectomy on Monday of this week, very little blood loss, not too uncomfortable physically even. If I were you I would not want a hysterectomy either. If I can answer any questions re a myomectomy please do ask. Good luck. Take care Sally
Guest guest
I wouldn't go to a doctor that had a lot of complaints. You probably have a fibroid that is in a location that is causing the heavy bleeding. You probably have a submucosal myoma. I too was contemplating between the myomectomy and uterine embolization. I'm going with the myomectomy because I want those horrible things out of my body. Forget the strangling method. RE: 50 year olds with fibroids > I am 49. I am going to a gynecologist for the first visit tomorrow. About ten years ago, my doctor sent me to a gyn and then I had an ultrasound because my uterus was elongated. Gyn said no problems, but now I wonder if I had fibroids then. For several years, I have had pressure especially on my intestines, causing bowel problems. I had another ultrasound about a month ago, because I had been bleeding for several weeks. That was when they said I have fibroids on my uterus. I do not know yet how many, how big, or what kind. > > I have 4 children, the youngest is 21. I don't plan on having more children, but don't want to have a hysterectomy. I'm also unsure about myomectomy because of the blood loss. I won't take a blood transfusion. Also I am quite heavy, so a doctor might not want to do abdominal surgery for that reason. > > At my age, I expect to be through menopause within a few years. I had lots of hot flashes and night sweats over the past few years, but they have stopped for 3 or more months. I can wait to see if menopause takes care of the fibroids, they haven't caused me too much trouble until recently. I have been bleeding with lots of clots, some quite large, since September 18. I'm not really sure if the fibroids are what is causing the bleeding, could it be a polyp? Previous to this periods have not been especially heavy. > > I have heard that this ob/gyn is very good, but many complaints about our local hospital. > > I'd love to hear from some of you. > > Marie > > > __________________________________________________________________ > Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. Guest guest
Hi Marie, I am having a myomectomy on December 10 and am donating 2 units of my own blood (at 3 weeks and 2 weeks in advance) in case it is needed. Would this be a possibility for you should you decide to have a myo? i also had 2 polyps with very heavy bleeding and clotting. After a hysteroscopic resection, my periods returned to normal and the heavy bleeding and clotting I had experienced between periods stopped. Its definitely worth asking your gyn if you can have a hysteroscopic exam to rule these out. Also, if it is a submucosal fibroid, they may be able to view it and assess if it can be removed hysteroscopically as well. Ask your gyn what tests can be performed to get a better understanding of what is going on. There are a number of different sonograms: saline, renal (if you are experiencing difficulty emptying your bladder), pelvic, etc. Best wishes, > I don't plan on having more children, but don't want to have a hysterectomy. Guest guest
" Jaki " , fortunately it is not the doctor I have heard bad things about. It is the hospital here. I have a lot of questions for the doctor. Thanks to this group and other research I have done, at least I know what the choices are. Now to find the right doctor. Maybe the one tomorrow will be ok. Wishing you the best with your choice of treatment. Marie __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. Guest guest
sbolles432@... , I definately want to know what the problem is before I just say go ahead to anyone. I do hope something can be done soon to assess and stop the bleeding. Thank you for your ideas.
