Guest guest
, From most of the information I've read (and correct me ladies if I'm wrong), it's rare for a fibroid to become cancerous. I had a large mass of fibroids (uterus at 18mos) removed via myomectomy. Since you've had c-sections, it's understandable that you would not want to go that route. There are lots of women on this board that went different routes in dealing with fibroids. Several are into the natural herb/diet route, others are taking meds to shrink the fibroids, some go UAE...I'm sure each of them will relate their decisions. If a partial hysterectomy makes you uncomfortable, have you expressed this to your doctor? If the doctor is telling you only one route, then I'd strongly advise seeing a few more docs and getting their opinions. I chose a fertility specialist since I want one more child, but a specialist is probably more open than a reg. doc to alternative actions-at least they will respect the choice to keep your organs. Just keep asking questions. After I (hopefully) have my last child, I'll tie my tubes as well but will fight to keep all the organs I was born with until it's a problem. Since in all likelyhood I will have fibroids again, I would be interested in hearing what you decide to do. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
> I found out that i had a fibroid a little over a year > ago. Do you know where your fibroid is located? That will make a difference in treatment. If they are submusocal, another option is to partially remove them through a hysteroscopy and see if cutting off the blood supply will cause them to die. Guest guest
<< I am receiving my first injection of Lupron tomorrow. I am confident in that. My doc also plans on doing a myomectomy...that is what scares me. I plan on having children someday, and want to know more about this. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. >> I think people on this list are more apprehensive about the Lupron than the myomectomy. Others will have to tell you about their experience with that, though. I chose Uterine Artery Embolization..... There are many knowledgeable people here who will be happy to share with you who have had myomectomies. Ask them how to look up past posts, too. They know better than I. Good luck!! Guest guest
Charlene: I had the same problem. It is from using your arms. It seems that everything is connected together in that area. Try to take it easy on your arms and your neck will feel better. Grooming our horses (and ourselves) takes lots of arm muscles-more than we realise. For a long time I had that achy problem with the arm involvement-it does get better. Glad you got out to see your horses but explain to them that they will have to be dusty for a while til mommie's muscles are better. Take care, Linn in Pa. Guest guest
To Dottie...with all due respect... It's to each her own. We can all discuss our stories, fears, regrets, etc., but the bottom-line remains...only YOU know what YOU are feeling; no one else. We are here to offer each other support, opinions, experiences to be able to reach some common ground; not to place judgment or criticize. This group's main objective is to " teach " not to " preach. Guest guest
Dottie, We're supporting you...your supporting us! Your right, none of us is invulnerable to the hysterectomy option ................... but we have to continue to advocate to the medical community that we need a preventive therapy to keep uterine fibroids from developing from the get-go, and minimally invasive and uterine sparing treatment options.... I admit to getting peeved that Hystersisters.com got the Welcome Mat from ObGyn.net (ladies in waiting/punctured princesses) and whether NUFF is the Cinderella step-child! So I wrote to the OBGYN.net publisher today (see below if interested) Hang in there, Dottie, we support you. I found it to be very interesting and informative! I am writing as a former Patient with symptomatic uterine fibroids who underwent a successful UAE in 2000. I had good results and regained my health, my quality of life, and improved my consortium with my spouse. Last year, I served as a Patient Advocate with the National Uterine Fibroids Foundation (NUFF); http://www.NUFF.org and continue to work with Carla Dionne, Executive Director and author of the book, " Sex, Lies, and the Truth About Uterine Fibroids " . I am also a member of uterinefibroids@ yahoogroups.com, a support group discussing uterine fibroids and all current available and emerging treatment options, including hysterectomy. I visited the Ob-GynL forum group to read physician posts about uterine fibroids. Many posts were thoughtful with the intent of best serving their Patient needs presenting with uterine fibroids. Would you please consider collaborating with Carla Dionne as you did with Kathy of Hystersisters.com OB-GYN-L Messages for July, 1999: Online Support for hyst patients http://forums.obgyn.net/ob-gyn-l/OBGYNL.9907/0600.html by also posting her website as a Hot Find? I have not visited the Women Patient's section. Did you already post information about Carla Dionne and NUFF there as well as Hystersisters? The most optimal treatment results when well-informed patients can interface with their physicians as to their medical condition; the appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment options available; and collaboration between both Patient and Physician to reach consensus-- " shared decision-making " is what the physician community refers to, I believe? To that end, NUFF to date, has done a remarkable job. If you have not already, please view the websites, consider the leadership of NUFF, especially the physicians serving on the Board of Directors and the mission statement of NUFF. Ms. Speyer, I'm sure you can agree with me that there are too many women suffering from uterine fibroids today. We need to prevent uterine fibroids from developing in the first place and in the meantime, we need to have uterine sparing and minimally invasive treatment options as well as hysterectomy. To that end Carla Dionne and the National Uterine Fibroids Foundation are working hard for those outcomes. Please support them. Please list them as a resource on Ob-Gyn.net for both Physicians and Women Patients. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Marsha V. Guest guest
Dottie, I am new to this group. I am at the point where I have to do something. As Popeye would say, " I can't stands no more. " However, I get no support from friends, family, doctors, etc., for my desire to keep my uterus. This forum is the first opportunity I've had to hear other people rant against hysterectomy and I appreciate knowing there are people like me in the world who are sick and tired of being treated like our organs are disposable. However, as I approach some decision, I want to hear your voice, too. Because hysterectomy is an option which I will eventually choose over continuing like I am. I'm hoping for another choice. But I need to hear that I'll be okay whatever happens. It's not animosity, just frustration. We need to feel like someone is rooting for us. At this point, what I most appreciate from this group are those who are telling us about the results they are receiving from their choices. Because that is what I am relying on as I approach my own decision. Thanks everyone, for sharing. Ginny (unknown) > I thought this group was a support group for all options of treating > fibroids.
