Well group, a week later, I finally heard from my Dr. He said that the

sonogram showed two fibroids, one 5.6 centimeters, and another at 2.3. For

those of you who have forgotten, I am 52, and on birth control (Lo Estrin Fe)

to regulate the periods. I have not missed a period, and have shown no signs

of menopause. He said in six months or so he will take me off the Lo Estrin,

and start HRT. My last two periods have been very heavy. The first with

clots, but none on the second one. However, I started recently on Synthroid

for my thyroid, and cannot evaluate if the cause of these heavy periods is

Synthroid or fibroid.

He said his recommended treatment is either watch them for 3 months,

and repeat the sonogram, or a hysterectomy.........my choice. He was very

surprised when I mentioned UAE or myo as options. (Thanks group for preparing

me.) He said that at my age, I do not need to consider either, as I am not

looking to have more children. He said a myo only prolongs things, and you

run the risk of adhesions from the surgery. This is his opinion. My

opinion.........get a second opinion........your opinion?

I agree with yourself & Countrybride about seeking a second opinion.

Reviewing your past posts, I noticed that you are enduring

multiple systemic conditions, ie the hypothyroidism,

the fibromyalgia, and of course the fibroid. Additionally,

your on both synthroid and birth control pills and looking

to HRT and are probably headed in the not too distant

future for menopause---WHEW, .

I would like to suggest getting a 2nd opinion with

a physician such as a reproductive endocrinologist

who can help you sort through the hypothyroidism,

the fibromyalgia and the medical therapy--synthroid/

birth control--as it relates to what treatment option

in dealing with the fibroids. You don't want increased

fibromyalgia symptoms---at all.

Hy yvonne ya know i would gert a second opinion. As far as the adhesions

go i know that you can get scar tissue from the myo but we all run that

risk any time we have any kind of surgery. I talked to my doctor about

it extensively before my surgery and what he did was put like some new

skin over the incision in the uterus to help prevent scar tissue from

happening. A myo does not pro-long anything if anything it is one of the

best alternatives to having a hysterectomy. For years the doctor's said

" YOU HAVE TO HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY " WHYbecuase there was no other

alternative for a woman to be able to keep her uerterus and have kids is

she wanted to. Now days there are many alternatives and still the

doctor's are pushing the hysterectomy. Yes you do the chance of a

reaccurence of the fibroids from having a myo but there is not a

guaruntee as to when they will grow back or if they will grow back.

So my advice to you is to either call your doctor and tell him

what you want and not what he feels that you shuld have and if he does

not respond to your wishes then set out to find another doctor who is

more receptive to your wishes and what you want to do with your body.

Please keep me informed as to what is going and how you come out i have

given my 2-cents worth and have been on my soap box (lol lol),

CB :)

Marsh, this is wonderful news. I did not know these specialalities existed. I

did try to do the find a Dr., but it kept coming up with " page unknown " .

However, I did send them an email explaining where I live, and asking who

might be in the area. I do hope I hear from them. This sounds exactly like

what I need. Thank you so much for sending this.
