A program for living

I just thought about this and it seemed an interesting thought. The 12

steps are sometimes vaunted as " a program for living " . I don't think they

are myself, I think they are a program for having half a life whilst

perpetuating the dead teachings of the Oxford Group. But if I wanted to say

that a few things constituted my " program for living " , what would they be

now? Here are a few random ideas that I do actually believe in. If my kids

ever said- Dad, can you distil the essence of your philosphy of life for us

in a few sentences- what would they be- this is something like what I would

come up with;

Don't take your thoughts too seriously.

Do what you're good at.

Don't run from problems, solve them.

If it doesn't work, fix it.

The truth SHALL set you free.

A belief can be untrue. This means your beliefs too! So occasionally,

revise the program.

Better to whine that get sinus trouble.

Eat green leafy vegetables, even if you don't like them. You were designed

to run on them as part of your fuel.

Think, think, think. (Woops, how did that creep in?)

After brushing your teeth, smile.

Don't keep it simple, keep it effective.

Ok, that's all I can think of now. Any suggestions?

Hi Joe--Great list! Maybe you could start your own cult.

Probably couldn't though--folks ready for this stuff don't do

cults.

Here's one more I read on a bumper sticker.

" Question Authority "

I learned that as a kid, the time the cops came to the door and arrested my

Mom. Why? Was she a big-time gun moll? No. She

got a ticket for driving her six kids around in an unregistered

station wagon, and couldn't afford to pay. She spent the night

in jail.

You can add to that category:

" Just because something is legal doesn't mean its okay. "

Sincerely,

----------

How about, Procrastination is the thief of time

Hi guys, wow is it ever nice to find this list, calm, quiet and a lovely

sanctuary from arf12s. One can rest here for a while before venturing

back into the battle ground of the NG LOL. I don't feel very strong so

I'm really quite scared of writing to the NG for fear of being flamed,

warranted or not :-( I do know that not being involved in the 12step

stuff is such a relief for me, I feel free and have so much more time to

enjoy life, not just physically but mentally too. It seemed every day

that was filled with thinking 12step, thinking alcoholic ect ect. Since

my slip in March it hasn't occured to me to keep count of how long since

that last drink, that alone seems to have lifted so much weight offme

along with not making myself do a daily reading and no longer feeling

guilty because I couldn't get this God stuff!! My suitcase was so much

lighter this year on holiday without the BB and the international where

to find!!!!!!!! I actually read a *real* book for the first time in

years, you know, one of those fiction books, light and a pleasure to

read. I no longer have to surround myself with AA literature, I feel

like I've been let out of prison LOL

Thanks for this list, I certainly need it.
