Guest guest
Just thought I would describe what's happening with the two rounds of DMSA only that I just did for our 3 1/2 yr. old son. Wondered if anyone would have any advice or comments on what I am doing. 1st round--End of May--2 days at DAN protocol dose(150 mg) 3 times a day. My home therapists all said he was spacey, uncooperative, and aggressive during his sessions. It lasted a while. I think he was back to " normal " after 2 weeks. 2nd round--Beginning of July--2+ days at lower dose (33 mg) every 4 hours. Therapists again said he was spacey and a little aggressive, not as bad though. I was hoping to do chelation every other week, if not every week. But I feel I should wait until he is back to " normal " again. For one thing, it makes it hard for his therapists to teach him anything. I don't know if this is due to the chelation, but I am taking note of the fact that my son said his first sentence to me completely naturally the 3rd week of June, and he used the potty for the first time just before the 2nd round of chelation. (It was going to be one of my summer projects to potty train him, but he certainly " got it " before I had a chance to train him.) I am assuming that his spacey-ness, and aggression is his " temporary regression " that I hear people talk about. So, I'm not too worried, but I want him to come back to functioning well before we do another chelation. So maybe, for now I should strive for once a month. Does this all sound normal and okay? Guest guest
Meg, We started chelation in early January. My son is older but also does ABA, we saw every bad behavior, spaceyness, aggression, hyperactivity, everything we had ever seen rolled into one time. The therapists couldn't work with him, he was pretty much gone back to the old child, but with language, and it wasn't kind language we were getting. This really upset me, I thought I had mad a big mistake. We are chelating him every 4 hours 3 days on 4 days off. After I had a good cry, I decided to continue, I am so glad I did. I am glad we did it, and didn't stop. Many of the behaviors he once had are gone. There are times he still gets a bit spacey but as we continue to chelate we continue to see wonderful progress. Unfortunatley we were using liquid DMSA and we found out that it probably did not hold its potency beyond the first few days of being mixed by the pharmacist. So basically we were chelating one weekend out of the month, without our knowledge. We did this the 2nd 3rd and 4th month of chelation. We are now chelating with capsules again, we have seen the behaviors come and go but nothing like the first month. It is just my own opinion but I would do it aggressivley and get the worst over as quick as possible, you will most likely get alot of regression as you start chelation, alot of people see this with thier children, and then there are those lucky ones that only see gain. The therapists just gave him more breaks in the early months, but now he works non stop and is more willing to learn, and has done wonderfully in all areas, Leah -- In @y..., " Meg Springer " <mspringer781@e...> wrote: > Just thought I would describe what's happening with the two rounds of DMSA > only that I just did for our 3 1/2 yr. old son. Guest guest
Leah, I am so glad you posted this, my son had the EXACT same reaction. We started in December, and he regressed TERRIBLY. I was also going to stop, but stuck with it, and my son has come out of his horrible phase. His awareness level is at an all time high, he is seeking out other children his age to play (7.5) I am ecstatic, and would reccomend to anyone to hang in there, and press on -Shari valadez4@... wrote: > Meg, > We started chelation in early January.
