Guest guest
It's terrible, the only thing worse would be to have no insurance at all. We pay from 10.00 to 40.00 CO-pay per prescription. That comes to roughly 170.00 a month. Carol
Guest guest
I agree that co-pays are going out of this world!!! Ours used to be $10, now they are up to $25 with most of mine being in that range. I take 7 different pills and hubby takes 3 a day. That can get really high!! __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I don't have a problem with co-pays. I don't have insurance. My meds are just under $400 a month (I've been lucky with samples for most, so far), and my strips are about $75 a month, give or take on how many extra times I have to test. That isn't counting doctor visits ($125 if nothing extra), eye doctor visits, dentist visits, blood tests, other tests, and a $11,000 hospital bill I acquired in January. Add to that all the extra meats, vegetables, and fruits I have to buy now because I can't have a 99 cent bag of chips for supper anymore. Plus, don't laugh, but I never cooked, so I had to go buy pots, pans, crock pot, etc. I'll trade with anyone and take your co-pays. Count your blessings. And please take this tongue-in-cheek because I consider myself lucky that I can handle all these bills. So far. debbye

Guest guest
Flo, I've donated testing supplies to a Certified Diabetes Educator who works with many folks who don't have insurance. I suppose a CDE in your area could recommend a way to pass your Rx surplus to needy folks. Is there NO chance your spouse will ever go back to this med, though? I think the " contamination factor " is the reason insurance companies don't get involved in " recylcing " unused prescriptions. Rennie > My husband just got a supply of Lantus. Guest guest
---Ins. co. probably made it the high priced formulary. Our Co. does that with no warning. That is why I had to switch meters because my strips doubled in price, so I had to switch to what they are currently pushing. I much prefered my old meter but... My husband is still on the old one. The comfort strips come in a bottle with a vacuum sealed lid which was too difficult for him to open. So I just let him keep using the old one. Guest guest
, in some states, diabetes supplies are required to be covered by insurance. Both my husband and I get strips and lancets free, also Medicare pays for them if you have Medicare. This is in Tennessee. Check into it because those strips are so expensive. Guest guest
---Here in Pa they are not required to give them free, but cut the cost of them. That seems like a high price is paying. I get 200 strips for 18.00 and my husbands are 200 for 35.00. The difference in prices is because one is formulary and the other non formulary. In other words, the ins. company is pushing a certain brand over another. madge In diabetes@y..., " Bowlin " <bowlin@c...> wrote: > , in some states, diabetes supplies are required to be covered by > insurance. Also get on the phone and call them about your sons meds that haven't been paid for. It is their responsibility to pay for them since they were declared covered. Otherwise, there must be a place to call for complaints against an ins. company that is not doing its job. madge In diabetes@y..., NANCY BROTZMAN <petra2000@y...> wrote: > We're in Pennsylvania, but we sure don't get anything. > I don't know anything about getting strips through > insurance. Guest guest
I have a $10.00 co pay, but one time I went to pick up my meds (I had 3) and she said that will be $70.00. I said that can't be right. The doctor had forgotten to check that a generic was OK so the real drug was not in the $10.00 co-pay range. Just a thought. Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the grouop and just found out that I do have diabetes 2 and just started to do the blood tsesting and have many questions. But, how would I go about finding a CDE?? Thank you, Bill Karpus Re: co-pays Flo, I've donated testing supplies to a Certified Diabetes Educator who works with many folks who don't have insurance. I suppose a CDE in your area could recommend a way to pass your Rx surplus to needy folks. Is there NO chance your spouse will ever go back to this med, though? I think the " contamination factor " is the reason insurance companies don't get involved in " recylcing " unused prescriptions. Guest guest
Bill: I found a diabetic nutrition class given by a CDE by contacting one of the local hospitals. My insurance paid for the class as it was referred by my primary care physician. I found the class to be very valuable. By understanding the relationship between blood glucose levels and carbohydrate intake as explained by the instructor, I was able to lower my readings significantly. Hope this helps.
