Guest guest
Hi All During my battles on addict-l I've been waiting for a bomb to drop that so far hasnt, and when I tell you what it is, you'll see why. shing Peele's " Diseasing of America " I point to the science that shows the ineffectiveness of AA. " Why dont you take any notice? " I ask. " No point reading it - I wont change my mind " . " It's not *real* science " . (Those two from a psychiatrist, to his eternal shame). " Science sucks " . " Everybody's views are irrational and not supported by science. " (Good one that last one, isnt it?). The bomb that hasnt dropped is when asked if i would like to see evidence supporting of AA, I accepted, and it duly arrived. No-one has asked me if I've read it yet. they might be abt to, but it's been quite a while since I got it. anyway, as *I* am committed to viewing relevant evidence, I hunted it out. it's only in the form of references, so to read them up properly i'll have to chase up the original articles, but I have access to abstracts here, and i started to hunt down the abstracts and read them. I dont know if it's a coincidence that the first two were Finnish - i have heard rumors alcoholism is a particular problem in finland. anyway, a paper entitled " The Efficacy of the Twelve Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous in the Treatment of Alcoholism " turned out to be something quite different from what I expected. I found it quite a giggle, so good I decided to include it as an attachment for maximum effect. My only clue is that women arfers might find it particularly ticklish. Now, what if I were to send it to araa and arf? after all, it is supportive of the 12SP! Data suggest that certain steps in the AA program contribute to a significant difference in the Bem Standard Score Difference means and/or Bem Class. AA steps 4, 5, 8, 9, and 12 were identified by ANOVA as related to androgyny. Androgyny has been associated with good mental health and could accordingly be an indicator of progress in the process of recovery.
