Guest guest
To all, I am very familiar with Lupron in the setting of PC (by the way, you can e-mail me privately if you need resources for prostate cancer). A thought just occured to me. There is a phenomenon with Lupron in some men where the hormone which is being suppressed (testosterone in men) originally " flares " and increases before being suppressed. It is a temporary condition, but can be very serious, as you can imagine, for a PC patient. I can't remember the percentage, exactly, but I want to say something like 10% of men have this reaction. An anti-androgen pill is given in advance to Lupron (or the other shot called Zoladex) to prevent this condition. Is the risk the same for women considering Lupron? In other words, is there a risk that the Lupron will actually increase the estrogen before it suppresses it? Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Also, is Zoladex ever used instead of Lupron? Thanks, in advance, for the info..............Jan
Guest guest
It says in the pamphlet " Symptoms may increase for 2 weeks after receiving the Lupron injection. " I had the injection 1 week ago and so far I have no side effects or have I experienced an increase in symptoms. Of course, everyone reacts differently. Guest guest
I am new to this group, but thought I'd respond. I am no longer familiar with the exact mechanism of Lupron but a physician once told me that the immediate response from with Lupron (before the body compensates) is an increase in fertility (which was why birth control had to be continued). I recall also being told that due to this immediate increase in fertility that Lupron was actually (or used to be) used as a (short term - 1 month) fertility drug. I would think a physician could explain process better than I. Patty B. in Chicago
Guest guest
It is true that Lupron causes an over abundance of Estrogen. I was told the same thing. It only makes sense. I have started w/ hot flashes. I am in my 3 week of my first shot. I am due for my next shot next Thursday. I just wish I could go w/ the UAE because I don't want to take Lupron, don't want to be cut open and don't want to have a csection to deliver my baby. I also don't want these things to grow back and they always do. You know I asked my dr. the liklihood that these things would grow back... she said 100%. Real nice. I am sooo confused. --- reneehale@... wrote: > It says in the pamphlet " Symptoms may increase for 2 > weeks after receiving > the Lupron injection. Guest guest
yes, Zoladex is a drug used like Lupron to shrink fibroids. I haven't heard of Lupron use in the British isles, but rather Zoladex and Synarel I think you are right about the estrogen flare as several women have reported a heavy period after their first Lupron shot, before periods stop
