Guest guest
know this sounds weird, but I amjealous of anyone who doesn't have TMJ. My Orthodontist did not prepare me for Orthognathic surgery. If he had prepared me for this, is itmost likely that I would not have had tmj? FURTHERMORE MOST CARING DOCTORS WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING. WHATSMORE, IF I WERE GEARING UP FOR A LAW SUIT, I WOULD NOT USE THE INFORMATION THAT I OBTAIN HERE FOR THAT LAWSUIT. I WOULD ONLY USE INFORMATION BY MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO TESTIFY. I WAS A STUDENT GETTING READY TO GO TO LAW SCHOOL BEFORE MY TMJ AND I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS, SO I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE INS AND OUTS OF THIS. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO HAVE YOUR EAR PLUG UP OVER EVERY SINGLE SLIGHT HILL? I DOUBT IT. SO IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET ON WITH MY LIFE! HOW OLD ARE YOU ANYWAY? I ALSO HAVE NOT RECIEVED ANY OF YOUR REPLIES. I DON'T LOG INTO THIS SITE EVERYDAY AS I ANM BUSY WITH MY NEW TMJ DOCTOR WHO IS TRYING TO CORRECT MY TMJ PROBLEMS. PLEASE BE A LITTLE MORE SENSITIVE TO PEOPLE. THE ONLY THING I WAS WONDERING, WAS SIMPLY, IF ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY WAS DONE IN MALOCCLUSSIONS THAT CANNOT BE CORRECTED WITHOUT THIS, IN ORDER TO MOST LIKELY AVOID THE POTENTIAL OF TMJ

Guest guest
I know what it feels like to have TMJ and it is not an easy thing to live with. I have had it off and on for years. I didn't have hardly any problem with TMJ for the last 5 years or so, but since I had my surgery it has come back and I am really bummed. I didn't have to take any medicine after the 1st week of surgery and now that the TMJ is back, I have to take the motrin again. My doctor said we have to wait and see what happens, but I am really scared to have to live with TMJ again. It is a constant pain and there is little you can do. One doctor told me a few years ago to do some jaw excersices and it really helped. I had to move my jaw sideways. Another stretch was to try to push my lower jaw forward. It really helped a lot, but of course I can't do those stretches right now, because of the surgery. I wish you well and just wanted to let you know there are people out there that understand you and feel for you. Good luck, Sabine > > You're starting to sound like a broken record. Guest guest
nsbihari, I have had chronic, unrelenting TMJ for the better part of 20 years. I should have mentioned this in my previous post. I currently have a completely open bite, with severe jaw pain and migrane headaches. I have seen neurologists, pain specialists, dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons and psychiatrists. My diet is now almost completely composed of liquids while I await surgery. My frustration (as evidenced in my earlier post) is not meant to belittle your pain. I may have not understood you clearly and if so, I do apologize. Are you seeking to ease your pain through orthodontia and possibly surgery? Or are you trying to place the cause of your pain on your doctors? I have replied to your posts on many occasions, both here and on Fiddlestick's site, as have others. I can't tell you whether your doctors acted correctly or not. I can't tell you the cause of your TMJ. I can, and wish to, help you go forward from this point on as far as getting some relief. I wish you well and hope that you find what you're looking for. Cheryl
Guest guest
If I'm not mistaken, Cheryl does indeed have it. I know i do, and i have it with pain, which is far more troublesome than plugged up ears. Although I do often have plugged up ears, as well. Honey, posting in all caps (and managing to post it twice in a row! although I suspect that was more a burp of the site than your intent) doesn't help any. Matter of fact, it comes off as screaming. I am sensitive to your pain, believe me. I have tried everything I and my docs know to deal with the pain, with little success -- and what my docs do tell me to use that works (heat) they tell me to use no more than 15 minutes. So yess'm, i do know what tmj is. And I don't doubt that you're troubled by it. So are a lot of others. But the problem with it is that nobody really seems to know what causes it. There are things that are suspected to make it worse; if i remember right, going up and down hills has to do with it. I am delighted to hear that you are in the care of a new doctor who can, I fervently hope, help you. But please, please. If you want to see if someone has answered you, do an archive search. There is one here; try it out! Many of us have spent a great deal of time plunging through past archives to try to ferret out what we need to know. But you're bugging Cheryl, who has troubles too, and you're bugging me, which makes me think that you are also bugging others with your incessant repeating of this one question. The answer is that nobody can guarantee you the answer you probably seek. OK? I don't own the site. I'm no more important here than you are, and I don't make the rules. I have been here a while, and i haven't yet ready anybody's post that guarantees that orthognathic surgery guarantees prevention of tmj, and my doctors are most definitely of the opinion that it does not. They also do not guarantee that the tmj will become either better or worse with the surgery, or with orthodontics. we just have to see whether I get lucky or not. OK? Now what part of that do you not understand? You say you were planning to be a lawyer; surely you would not badger a witness in this manner. Best regards, anyhow. Guest guest
I understand your frustration... nobody seems to understand exactly what you're asking, though... I ditto everything that B. said: what do you mean by " if your Ortho had prepared you? " Therein lies the answer. Please be more specific, so that we can try and help you. I too have an open bite, with only two teeth touching at the back, so when i eat anything hard all the pressure goes on my jaw joint which causes extreme headaches. Thankfully i have only had this eight years which is long enough. I only discovered that it was TMJ after getting several tests done for Brain tumours etc. Many times i have thought i was going to crack up and even thought of suicide (although i would never dream of this) Thankfully, just recently i have been lucky enough to get my treatment started. In the United Kingdom we have the National Health Service which is fortunately free however there are long waiting lists. I could not go private as all the Orthognathic surgeons in the country where i live are affiliated with the (NHS)which was even more frustrating. However I know how lucky I am to have skipped many people on the waiting list due to my bite increasing to 8mm gap. I hope that both of us gain much from our Treatment. Take care Annie
