Guest guest
Milk thistle extract is quite helpful. It should be given 4 times a day. I suggest it as part of the basic supplements for any mercury toxic person. Andy > Dear Listmates, > I recently read an article in a natural health magazine about milk thistle helping to neutralizing toxins in hormones, drugs and chemicals and stimulating liver regeneration. I was wondering if this would be helpful for my daughter as she started taking Risperdol to help her through her times during puberty and I'm thinking about the long term effects on her liver by this medication. Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. > My best, > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been

There is a little book about it called " Milk Thistle, the liver herb " . by Hobbs. It is just a little booklet, but very interesting. You are smart to think about the liver relative to taking medication, especially long term. The liver has to detox drugs, hormones, and most anything toxic that shows up. Since milk thistle helps the liver, it is helpful with all those things. Anyone who is fond (or overly fond) of alcohol would be wise to take a lot of milk thistle, I think. If you search on " milk thistle " in the archives you should find lots. Including some recent stuff from me about collecting milk thistle seed from plants in my neighborhood (it grows wild all over the place--- here in California). best, Moria

I have given Zach milk thistle for years twice a day due to the depakote etc...and he has never, ever had any liver enzyme elevations. I believe milk thistle (silymarin) has a proven track record of being beneficial for the hepatic system
Guest guest
Depakote has actually been responsible for over 300 deaths in children due to pancreatic failure not liver failure. Notices of this went to psychiatrists and not to the neurologists. My son's psychiatrist is now trying to get this medication banned. I suggest you check pancreatic status not just liver status....Sincerely Joni M. Guest guest
Dear Moria, Thanks for your positive response. My doctor, fortunately, doesn't believe in keeping children on meds like Risperdol forever. In fact we've begun to cut back just a little to see how she'll handle it. This is the first time we've had to resort to a medication like this, but puberty is driving her crazy, poor thing. If the milk thistle will help keep her liver healthy and is safe to take then I'm happy to give it to her. Thanks again, Re: [ ] Milk thistle helping to detox liver - info needed please At 09:51 PM 7/8/2001 -0400, you wrote: >Dear Listmates, > I recently read an article in a natural health magazine about milk thistle helping to neutralizing toxins in hormones, drugs and chemicals and stimulating liver regeneration. Guest guest
Dear Andy, Is giving this supplement 4 times a day safe for a 93lb. 12 year old?
