Guest guest
Pam, It is true that there are some positions that you should skip during pg. I took a semester of yoga in college and have quite a few books in my collection that demonstrate positions, the books also highlight which to avoid during pg. You might want to check your library for info. Tara Re: denise Pam: I don't do yoga, but from what said, it just sounded like you should be careful what positions you do and to make sure your instructor is familiar with what is appropriate and what is not. If I were you, I would talk to the instructor, but not necessarily abstain altogether unless your instructor doesn't help you with more appropriate exercises. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pokemon, Blue's Clues, Tigger and Pooh,Barbie, Curious and Scooby-Doo. Maybe I should skip it for a couple of weeks. >Pam Sorry, didn't mean to alarm you; just to offer caution, because many instructors aren't knowledgable about which poses are okay. Overall, it should be fine to do it. I'd just stay away from inverted poses; you know ones where you're abdomain is above your heart/head for long periods. Candle, Downward Dog are a couple I'd skip for a while. BTW, its also good to skip inverted poses during menses, because they can disrupt blood flow. In a beginning class, my assumption would be that you won't be doing a lot of inverted poses anyway, as many of them are more advanced. When doing balance poses, be sure to use the wall or a chair to help stablize yourself if you lose your balance easily. One of the key premises of yoga is patience. Its perfectly acceptable to go slow and its a key principle to listen to your body's messages. If your body says no to a pose, then don't do it, or if a pose intuitively feels wrong, then skip it. Jane Fonda's rules of exercise (No Pain, No Gain) do not apply to yoga. Its far less problematic to do yoga while ttc or in pregnancy than doing high impact or even low impact aerobics, because movements are done slowly without jerking or pounding the body. When you do become pregnant what you learn in yoga could help you stay strong throughout pregnancy and be a real benefit during labor. I haven't done a search, but my assumption would be that there are sites on yoga and pregnancy on the web; there certainly are a number of books and videos on the market that you could check out from the library if you didn't want to buy any. Yoga is like any exercise program; one should evaluate whether its right for them, talk with your doctor if you find that helpful and get more informaiton about the benefits and potential risks. If in the end, you find that it doesn't feel right for you to be doing yoga now, then there's nothing wrong with that either, but I'd encourage you to make an informed choice. Guest guest
, I know we did that down ward dog thing. I am really glad you gave me that info. After having my ep the last thing I want to do is have another one. I am going to try and get to class early and see what she says. Thank you, Pam
