Guest guest
I do. We have these rather hefty scales in most of our local supermarkets, and I racked up about an 8 lb difference between that and the one I do my WI's on, at home! Thought I was losing my mind. Thanks for mentioning it, Kitty! :-) Tony Florida 259/247.5/155 (since Oct 9, '02) 1st 10% goal = 233; WAYOOM goal 246 ============================= Different Scales, different weights > Do any of you notice a huge difference in your weight on different > scales? Guest guest
I do not go to meetings and only weigh officially at home. I do weight at church Wednesday nights with some other ladies but their scale has me weighing about 5-7 pounds more than my at home scale. I guess the thing is even though it is great to have a numerical goal our primary goal should be to look healthy. Think about the folks that are working out with weights. They will end up weighing more (check the discussion as of late with Covert , Fit or Fat) then the person not using weight bearing exercise. Muscle does weigh more than fat. I have a picture in my head of how I want to look and will stop when I get there. My goal weight of 130 is an educated guess of what weight I think I will need to get to. But if I look great at 135 I am good with that. I don't put too much stock into scales because they do vary so much. That is why I use the same one every time. If it doesn't give me an accurate weight at least it gives me an accurate weight loss, if that makes sense. I weigh in wearing the same thing, at the same time, on the same scale every week therefore I believe I am getting a true picture of how much I have lost, not necessarily how much I weigh. 215/203/130 Started October 16, 2002 Thanksgiving challenge 202/12 currently 203/2 > I do. Guest guest
I used to have one of those, and it was quite a happy day for me when the battery would get low, as it would give me a weight 30 or 40 pounds less! Guest guest
I also only weigh in at home. I have digital scale which I think is fairly accurate but sometimes I wonder. I do weigh in every morning but only record my Sunday weight and don't get hung up on the daily flucuations. Here is what sometimes happens to me. I weigh in immediately after getting up and will step on the scale 4-5 times, sometimes it will vary a pound or even two depending on it's mood. This is what happened the other day. " lose 75 lbs in 30 days - guaranteed " so Im thinking, " OK, I'll spend my money on THIS, and be totally invisible in 90 days " yeah RIGHT! Good thing you're not weighing like that everyday! I think the water gain just from drinking all your water would really mess with your mind. You know, drink 2 glasses of water, gain a lb, go pee, wow, down a lb, I think I'd go nutz! I tossed out my scales at home, and I only allow myself to weigh in at meetings. I can feel a bit of a diff. in my clothes already, and thats all Im going to go by at home. Life changes can be stressful enough, with out a smart-alec scale messing with your mind! Have a great day! Guest guest
That's how I feel, . The Curves scale is about 4 pounds lighter, but I figure that if I am weighing on the same scale every week at about the same time in the same state of undress, the part that matters is that I am losing and I'm looking and most of all feeling better. Guest guest
Different scales DO weigh differently - make no mistake. We had an at-work program, and they brought two scales. The leaders SWORE the scales were identical, but refused to let us prove them right. I always weighed on a medical, sliding weight scale immediately before meetings. One of their scales was a pound below the nurse's scales, and the other was two pounds above! We all knew this - it isn't rocket science - but the leaders refused to mark the scales so we could use the same one each time, or to bring only one of the two scales. In the course of the meetings, we saw those scales dropped, rained on and dried off, and nudged around by countless toes. You tell me... were we nuts? I just don't think so. Pick a scale, and stick with it. I'm partial to scales where you have to stand centered and upright - they tend to be more accurate. That's just me. -Crys-
