Guest guest
You know Bev, I think it is because we have been conditioned by the diet industry that we need to deprive ourselves of anything that tastes good if we are to ever lose weight. I was talking to my husband last night about this very thing. You know with all the " diet " foods that are out today it is almost like you don't even feel like you are on a diet! Think about 30 years ago. There was nothing but saccharine as an artificial sweetener and to me it has an aftertaste! Not a good one either! You had to eat cardboard tasting stuff. I don't think there was any FF dressings or things like that, it was just plain salad. We ate at Burger King last night on the way home from church. While we were sitting there a lady from church that is in the group of 4 that is trying to lose weight goes through the drive thru and waves at me. I wave back! She has taken 3 months to lose 6 pounds. Now this is what I ate at BK. I had a BK veggie with no mayo only lettuce and tomato, a side salad with Light Done Right Italian dressing (5 points). This lady only wants to lose about 30 pounds but has said to me she needs to lose about 70. I have lost 12 pounds in 4 weeks but it is due to the choices I make. I can eat a regular cereal as a matter of fact I tried Harmony cereal instead of my usual Fiber one. I got 1.25 cup of harmony cereal with 1/2 cup skim milk for 4 points. My fiber one 1 get 1 cup cereal with 3/4 skim milk for 3 points. The biggest difference is the way I feel. The fiber one fills me up so I don't feel at all hungry. Now eating the other one won't hurt me, it tastes good and is not bad for me at all but I would rather " spend " my points wisely. I can have pizza but the amount that I would need to eat to feel full would use too many points so I take 1 point sliced bread with a bit of tomato sauce and some veggie mozzarella cheese and I feel more satisfied, not deprived, plus I have more points to spend on other things!! My treat is Junior Mints. I love those things!!! A small snack box is 1 point (there are about 6-8 mints in them) now I can take that little box and open it and pour all of them down my throat (that is the way I would have done it in the past) or I could take one and suck on it and let it melt in my mouth. The taste lasts for a long time, more gratification but the same number of points. Do you see what I am trying to say. These days we needn't deprive ourselves. This is a life long thing and I am trying to learn to eat things that I can eat forever. I like the soy or veggie burgers so that is not a big deal. Water is the best thirst quencher I know so that is no problem. I like veggies and fruit. I have never really cared for cheese. I like the sugar free and reduced fat treats just as well as the other ones so once again no problem. I feel very fortunate that I have been on this program for nearly 5 weeks now and I DO NOT feel deprived at all. There is so much guilt with the way we used to eat that I think that carries over to WW sometimes. I know this is forever. It has to be. I have a goal for my weight, my size that I want to be, and the time frame in which I want to do it. I am enjoying the journey. Learning what works for me individually, we are not all the same. We have to learn to listen to our own bodies. How many > points, > and is it good? > I almost tried this last night but chickened out. Literally -- had the jr. chicken whopper, no mayo. I think the veggie burger was 6 points when I checked it on www.dwlz.com -- but don't quote me, I can't remember for sure. Has anyone tried the bk veggie burger? Was it worth eating? One of my biggest life changes is that I don't eat anything I don't truly enjoy! Vicki Rochester NY
Guest guest
I tried the veggie burger once; it was okay, nothing special. > > Is that the soy burger they have now?? Guest guest
Good change! I like that, don't eat anything you don't absolutely enjoy! Mind if I borrow it?? :-)! I didn't know what it would taste like either but it really wasn't bad to me at all. Once I start to look at food for what it is instead of what I make it nothing really tastes bad and I have tried a lot of things that normally I wouldn't. (food=fuel...food does NOT = something to do when I am bored, a security blanket, a crutch) > Is that the soy burger they have now?? Guest guest
I have had the vege burger at BK and it was pretty good. I don't know how many points it is but it is definitely worth trying. HTH Re: Guilt free eating, spending points wisely~~Bev > Is that the soy burger they have now?? Guest guest
I had one yesterday....I agree, it was okay...better than spending however many points for a real one, but not worth the 7 points IMO. Although we were in the car, late for preschool, grabbing lunch on the go, so in the big picture it turned out to be a decent choice for me, given the alternatives. And if I do decide have cookies, it's because I really wanted them -- and I really enjoyed them! This is a huge step forward from eating cookies as a procrastination technique!
