Its that an artificial sweetener?? I know sorbitol can have the same

effect--also a product I avoid for this reason. :)

[ ] Hot on the trail of diarrhea!

Listmates,

As many of you know, Kenny had a colonoscopy/endoscopy on Thursday June 28.

This was because he had been having diarrhea accidents of the explosive type

approximately 10-12 times a day since early April.

The results were " normal " . That was both good (and bad) news for us. A

relief that there is nothing major wrong, but disappointing to not find

something to attribute the diarrhea to.

On Friday, we started back on just a few of the supplements, as we had been

adding all sorts of things over the last few months. We put back Vit, C, E,

selenium, zinc, and magnesium glycinate.

The diarrhea was back with a vengeance. And I was very surprised, because he

hadn't eaten anything since Wednesday at noon, other than a few crackers after

the procedure.

Saturday we took out the mag. glycinate.

No diarrhea.

Today, for the first time since April, he had TWO formed stools. And he was

HAPPY again today for the time in a long time!

I AM SUSPECTING THE SUCRALOSE in the magnesium glycinate!

Yes, sucralose is an artificial sweetener.

We have found some articles on the internet that may be of interest to folks. I

will post in the next day or two as soon as we get through everything.

The bottom line from what we've seen so far is, it's not something you want to

be putting into kids who are already suffering from toxicity problems!

,

What brand of Mag. Glycinate did you use for Kenny?

,

It was the Kirkman brand. Larry, at Kirkman Labs, has graciously agreed to

send us some capsules WITHOUT the sucralose to see if that was what was causing

the diarrhea problem in Kenny.

I want to stress that my son is extremely sensitive to just about everything,

and it may be that this is just an individual case, or that it may effect a

small subgroup of kids. (I have learned over the years that there are a *few*

other kids like Kenny out there.)

Larry's original thought was that the problem might be the glycinate.

(Remember that Kenny has tolerated magnesium malate at a fairly high dose for

years, so I don't think it was the magnesium per se.)

I am going to try the capsules that Larry is sending, and that should give us

an answer as to what was going on. I will post the results after we've got an

answer.

,

I looked this up on their site recently. It is made from table sugar

and a vegetable oil - usually corn oil, but maybe cottonseed or

canola oil.
