It is a great page of info. is on this list so I'm sure she's glad you liked it enough to share it with us. I've also got a page with some info on it: http://listenup.tripod.com/haidfund.htm s great and I'm glad she's on this list, also Sherry Zee from http://home1.gte.net/sherryze/ I get many good ideas and suggestions from the 2 of them and try to pass along info for them also. Speaking of which....HEADS UP SHERRY, THIS IS FOR YOU! I recently put up a new ruling CJ sent me: Doe v. Board of Education of the Detroit Public Schools http://listenup.tripod.com/ruling3.htm Celeste, sorry I didn't let you know when I got it up last week, but I was having big problems getting my server to upload it. Took Tripod and myself a week to get it figured out. In the meantime I had to use a different method to upload stuff and lost the contents of my guestbook and the web map is now all messed up. I've been concentrating on getting the problem solved and didn't get a message off to you. So sorry, but it was online the day after I said I would get it there. > This is interesting. There's often a gap between my daughters' srt and pure tones also. It was explained to me once this way. Only certain frequencies are tested with tones, so only those tones tested show up on the charts. A child can have spikes of better hearing between those tested tones. Since speech covers more frequencies than just the tested tones, this may account for the gap. This may or may not be what is happening in your cases, but it was one audiologists explanation why JD was able to do better with his hearing loss than most " professionals " thought he should. Of course, there were other explanations offered as well, like if the loss is a reverse slope like JD's, there could actually be some better high frequency hearing which is not tested for, but may be giving him additional information. > How accurate is this???? I hope for good news tomorrow, starting to REALLY > get worried now!!! By now I hope you've seen the dentist and he has reassured you. Please let us know how things turned out. > X-rays will clearly show teeth developing, but I'd bet the dentist will be > able to tell a lot without them. You beat me to it Chris! ;-) Kay

Board of Education of the Detroit Public Schools >http://listenup.tripod.com/ruling3.htm The list should know that I redacted the decision and named the student's family Doe. If one wants to refer to it legally, that is not the name of the action, but the redacted info I sent to Kay will give one enough into to get the skinny from the Michigan Dept. of Ed. I also took out my home address. If anyone is interested enough to read it, please don't talk to anyone in MI about it for another 2 weeks. The district still has time to appeal (which, to our knowledge they have not done) but we wouldn't want to have anything jog them in that direction. >Celeste, sorry I didn't let you know when I got it up last week, but I was >having big problems getting my server to upload it. I'm so sorry all that happened. I told you not to rush. I'm just grateful that you are willing to post it. Can you get your guestbook and web map back? Now I'm feeling guilty. Don't apologize for not letting me know personally or taking some time with it. You are simply outstanding!!!
Guest guest
Celeste, I read the decision and found it fascinating. Don't worry, I don't know anyone else in Michigan, so I won't be talking to any of your locals about it! Glad you are back with us. How's the hand coming? Guest guest
--- You wrote: My daughter is pre/pro and her Spt have always been better than her " audiogram " .......only by 5 - 10 dBs.......but still better. I assumed this was always the case...?? --- end of quote --- same thing with Ezekiel. The audiologist felt it was normal, just that a child at that age is more interested in hearing human speech and therefore more readily responsive. Guest guest
Celeste, Its me, miss nosy....Did you have surgery for carpel tunnel? I would find it hard to do those exercises after surgery I think. Just sat here and did them myself LOL How long is the healing process? Hope you heal soon! Most people would not find it fascinating, unless they, too, were fighting to get a child into a state school for the Deaf. I did have to laugh when I first read it, cuz that week was sooooo intense, and the decision makes it sound so short and dry. >Glad you are back with us. How's the hand coming? The hand is mending. The surgery itself, was a complete success; unfortunately, the scar is larger/thicker than one normally would develop (this has never happened to me before) so it does impede my range of motion a bit, and then it aches. I have to see the OT for this. She showed me some exercises I'm supposed to do ten times/day, and referring to two of them, I said, " Oh! Easy enough. B-10, B-10; L-21; L-21. " She thought I was nuts until I explained. I also have to wear a silicone gel patch over the scar every night. The OT gave me a piece about 1.3 " x1.3 " that she cut off from a larger piece. It really helps a lot. I'd like to buy some silicone gel sheets, but can't find them anywhere. Anyone have any clues? The bad news is that it's now in my left thumb. The doc hopes to avoid surgery, so he gave me a cortisone injection (PAIN! I mean, tears streaming down my face during this interminable procedure) and the OT made me a custom splint. I'm to keep it splinted until Dec. 2, when I go back to see the surgeon. Say a prayer it works! Well, I can feel that this is enough typing for now. (I can dust, but I still can't vacuum. Aw shucks!) Guest guest
Celeste, Glad the surgery was a success. Hope you get over the problems caused by the scar quickly. I have tendonitis in my left shoulder, and the doctor wants to give me a shot of cortisone. She claims that she uses a very thin needle, and it is almost painless. But I've heard enough from others that I'm willing (for now) to live with the pain and discomfort rather than undergo the shot. I'd be very interested in hearing if the shot helps your thumb in the long run, as there may come a day when I want to try to get this shoulder thing over with. It's been seven months already. I think what I found fascinating about the decision was the ridiculousness of the school district's position, and the pathetic arguments they made about their program being appropriate for this student. It is interesting to me to try to understand the logic of the educational establishment. Reading this sort of thing is a learning experience, as I fully expect to be embroiled in at least mediation if not due process over the interpreter issue for my son by next summer. Thanks for sharing. Dixie > > > > >>Celeste, >> >>I read the decision and found it fascinating.
