Dallas police officer killed in motorcycle crash

DALLAS (AP) - A Dallas police officer died early Sunday after his

motorcycle struck a curb, causing him to lose control and crash into a guard

rail.

Officials said Senior Cpl. Israel Sarmiento, 38, worked in the

Dallas Police Department for almost 13 years.

The accident occurred on a ramp leading to the Dallas North Tollway

in Collin County just after midnight.

``This is a tragedy. He was an outgoing person, popular with other

officers and a very good officer,'' Dallas police Lt. hill said.

hill said it was unclear if other vehicles were involved.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was investigating.
