By Bill Teeter Star-Telegram Staff Writer FOREST HILL -- A 36-year- old Fort Worth man was in jail Tuesday, accused of ramming his vehicle into an ambulance that blocked his parking spot while paramedics tended to a pregnant woman inside a restaurant. Lexal McGuire was arrested Monday night on suspicion of criminal mischief, Detective Dennis said. McGuire was being held on $1,000 bail. Criminal mischief is a Class A misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a fine of as much as $4,000. Dennis said the ambulance arrived at Luby's restaurant, 3252 S.E. Loop 820, about 6:45 p.m. on a report of the pregnant woman who might be unconscious inside. The ambulance parked, blocking McGuire's 1987 Lincoln Town Car, Dennis said. McGuire demanded that paramedics immediately move the ambulance, but they said they had to rush to the assistance of the woman inside, Dennis said. The paramedics and McGuire went inside the restaurant, he said. " The guy got belligerent, began shouting obscenities and went out to his car, " he said. McGuire started his car and tried to move it but had no room to maneuver, Dennis said. He hit the ambulance three times in the process, damaging the emergency vehicle, Dennis said. Damage to the ambulance was estimated at less than $1,500, Dennis said. Police arrested McGuire and another ambulance was called because the damaged vehicle couldn't be used to transport the woman to the hospital, Dennis said. MedStar spokeswoman said ambulances usually are not used immediately after collisions because their mechanical condition is in question. Also, the ambulance service's policy is for ambulances to remain at the scene of a collision during the initial accident investigation as long as the patient's physical condition is stable, said. The pregnant patient's departure to Methodist Fort Worth hospital was delayed by 15 minutes because of the incident, Dennis said. The patient, whose name was not released, was not harmed, said. On-scene interference with paramedics is rare, said. Usually the problem is with drivers who won't yield the right of way by pulling to the side of the road and stopping as the ambulance passes, said. Bill Teeter, Send comments to bteeter@...
