Guest guest
Hi everybody, this is my first post. My father was taking the 5mg Exelon patch and was not feeling any side-effects. However, coincidence or not, he appears to be feeling badly after moving to the 10mg. We want to try the 5mg dosage again - does anybody know if it's as simple as cutting the 10mg patch in half? He won't be able to see the doctor for a few days and we would rather cut the patch in half (if possible) than wait for a new 5mg prescription. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to you all for this forum, Marc.
Guest guest
Check w/ the doctor - but I'd say No b/c it reads: Do not cut or tear the patch. Do not apply a patch that has been damaged. http://www.drugs.com/cdi/exelon-patch.html > > Hi everybody, this is my first post. Guest guest
Marc, I would ask the the drug store where you get his meds the same question. And sometime they can even help and will get you a day or so prescription if they know you have that anyway. (Until you can see the MD.) But also I would certainly check for UTI as it was usually that when Mom had a problem. (I couldn't give her the drugs so I couldn't blame it on them.) Just a thought. Guest guest
Marc, I wouldn't think you could cut it in half, but a pharmacist could answer this for you immediately.
Guest guest
its not a good idea to cut any patch in half or even smaller because it causes the medication to leak out and or dry up making it useless ,plus you can get skin irritations this way also, best would be to call the Dr explain what side effects there are and ask him/her to call in a Rx for a 5 mg to your pharmacy, this should be no problem since your father was on the smaller dose previously Heidi Can you cut an Exelon patch in half to decrease dosage? > Hi everybody, this is my first post. Guest guest
Call your local pharmacist. Sometimes you can't do that because the medication could evaporate or possibly hurt the surrounding skin area...your pharmacist would be able to tell you if it would work that way. Guest guest
Hi Everybody - Thanks for the kind replies! I contacted my pharmacist and apparently you can not cut the patch in half. However, you can peel-off half of the backing and apply it, then rotate to the other exposed half the next day. All the best! Marc > > > > Hi everybody, this is my first post. Guest guest
That's very interesting and I'm sure that it will be helpful to know...whether an e?xcelon patch or another type of patch. > > > > > > Hi everybody, this is my first post.
