GREAT evening with Kep

What a great night Kep and I had! My sister took Bethany for several hours

and Cam was working, so it was just Kep and I for most of the evening. I

decided to start a sight word matching procedure. I made out cards for

about 50 cookie cutters from that great 100 piece set that so many of us

bought a while back. The first step in the procedure involves me holding up

the word and the cutter and asking Kep what it says. Of course, this part

was easy! As a reward for staying on task, each time he got one right, we

cut out the shape in play-doh.

After about 10 minutes it just became a play-doh free-for-all! HE PLAYED

PLAY-DOH WITH ME FOR 45 MINUTES!!!!!!!! He sat at the table and played

appropriately the entire time. Holy smokes it was so much fun! He was

letting me play WITH him and he was laughing. It was one of those moments

that I will hold in my heart for a long time. :)

Funny note: When I was making out the cards, I couldn't decide what to

write for the gingerbread man. I wasn't sure if Kep would call it man, boy,

or person. So, I asked him what it was. He said, " that's Kepler! " LOL.

So I put his name on that card. :)

Anyways, great night.

Doesn't it make you feel good when they interact with you without

being forced & are actually enjoying it? It makes my day to get

to laugh at or with me. What a great day for you!

I wish you could too! Bethany's going to be gone again tonight, so I think

we'll try to play his go fish game or something. I realized that Kep and I

haven't had much alone time lately, and we really need that. Bethany is so

demanding and if she had been here last night, the whole thing would have

gone much differently. She would have tried to 'help' with the procedure,

frustrating Kep. Then she would have taken over the play-doh table,

directing what needed to be done, sucking up all of my attention. Kep most

likely would have given up after 5 minutes, crawled away with the play-doh

and eaten it. :( I've just realized that Kep and I need more time together

and I'm going to work very hard to make sure we get it!

That is so true, Amy. When you have more than one

child you sometimes forget that they each need your

undivided attention at times. I sometimes miss when

it was just me and Ebony. Before I met my dh and

remarried, got two step children, and a baby . It was

so quiet and relaxing. But I love this too.

Good for you and Kep!!!

Amy, what a valuable insight! I'm so glad you were able to see

that. I've had some similar problems, and in our case the solution

for was for her to be at my mothers. For the other kids, it's

trying to get a handle on J so he doesn't rule the roost so to speak.

Amy:

I think Kep is SO social. I really am not surprised. Sophie says that he

is much more playful than Prof. Putter (I think I will have to begin calling

him that...)

Sophie and Bethany like to make Kep the " bad guy " and have him chase them

around the house. He doesn't really understand the game, but he does like

to chase them. Yesterday, the girls were upset because Kep was not

interested in playing at all. :(

And I think Prof. Putter is just perfect for him. :)
