Guest guest
Dry as a bone. Mad as a hatter. Red as a beat (sp?). Blind as a bat. Hot as a stove. Steve Dralle, EMT-P San , TX Re: diphenhydramine overdose CHALLENGE What are the actions of diphenhydramine and what signs and symptoms would an acute diphenhydramine overdose produce? What percentage of deaths from antihistamine overdose is attributable to diphenhydramine? What field treatment could you do if you don't carry the BigGun used in-hospital to reverse the effects of diphenhydramine overdose? Can you give two mnemonics for cholinergic s/s, and a 5-sentence " saying " for anticholinergic s/s? If you can't, you're not a 21st century medic yet. :~} E. Guest guest
You're right. Physostigmine is the drug for antihistimine overdose that requires more than gastric emptying, fluids and time. I have found that the easiest and quickest way to find answers to CHALLENGE questions is in Emergency Medicine Online, a wonderful, FREE emergency medicine textbook written by state of the art authors. It's just a click away. Gene E. Gandy, JD, LP EMS Professions Program Tyler Junior College Tyler, TX
