Guest guest
Hi , Sounds like we are in the same boat huh? LOL!!! Your son is the same age as and still pulls his aids out too? Does he keep them in while in the car? absolutly refuses. Now i think its more of a habit to immediately pull them out in the car. likes to throw his aids also. And whenever I leave the room and he wants my attention, he'll pull them out. He knows that's all he has to do to get our attention. We always come running because if we don't he'll rip the tubing out! Sometimes by the end of the day I just want to flush the aids down the toilet!! Oh well, I know the day will come when he realizes that the aids are to help him, but when??????
Guest guest
> Does he keep them in while in > the car? absolutly refuses. Many adult users don't like the noises that happen in the car either. One thing you might want to check out is if your child's hearing aid has a dual switch where the mic on the hearing aid can also be on at the same time as the t-coil. If so, check to see if the t-coil switch is turned off. JD's had this, and his was normally kept on because it had to be on for him to use his FM system, but when he was old enough to tell me, we found out the t-coil picked up the car's engine noise, a whiney pitch that went up and down according to how hard the car's engine was working. His also picked up a whine whenever he was near a computer. We taught him how to check and change this switch. This may or may not be what is happening with your child, but it is something to be aware of. > Oh well, I know the day will come when he realizes that the aids are to > help him, but when?????? When you least expect it. ;-) Kay

Are we just suppose to let her be miserable??? and then what about the little hearing she has left in her right ear, continued middle ear fluid can damage what hearing she does have...how can we ignore that?? Thank you for all the support I get from this list, Jeane Jeane - I don't have any advice, but i do have the same issue. also has an implant and does not have tubes any longer. The surgeon took them out for the same reason you mentioned. also has fluid right now, but no infection. The ped. is following up and watching to make sure there is no infection. I don't know what we will do if the fluid doesn't clear up...I will keep you posted. I would be interested to know what your ped. thinks as well. I know that the surgeon was not worried, because the fluid will not affect his hearing at all - I never thought of the little residual hearing in the other ear. Guest guest
--- You wrote: Kay, if you are interested, I also have a Mac, with o/s 8.1. If I can be of any help, let me know. --- end of quote --- It should work with O/S 8.1. O/S 8.5 created many problems and most programs had to have patches in order to run them (for example, Office 98!). Barbara
Guest guest
> the fluid will not affect > his hearing at all - Think again! For many implanted kids, it does. I haven't forgotten to ask. We go in February and I'll ask the surgeon to please explain why this is so. Kay
Guest guest
Hi, , Ben has definitely improved over the past few months, but still yanks them when he's tired or wants mommy. He used to pull them out all the time in the car, and I would just tuck them behind him (they're on critter clips); but now he only yanks them if he's mad. And he knows how to pull off the earmold and earhook! I agree, some days I just put them on the counter for a " time-out " ! It's still a sweet age, though, isn't it?
