Guest guest
Sandy, thanks for posting...I have heard so often here that after RAI, it all really hits hard and coming back is harder than going into hypo... about this being cold stuff...I have noticed week #8 after my TT, I can get SO COLD! I now have 4 blankets on my bed, and turn off the AC at night before turning in. I have my little boy hug me, too.....his body heat works wonders for this condition. Guest guest
I suppose 29.9mCi's could make you sick. Some people have small doses and it makes them sick while others have large doses and don't get sick. Some of it is physical, while...let's face it...some of it is 'all in your head'. Just the thought of swallowing radiation is enough to make some folks queasy. My doses were over 200mCi's and I did not get sick. Can't answer your question about quarantine since I was isolated in the hospital after my doses. Besides some of it is a function of one's kidneys and how quickly it is eliminated from your system (this does not mean you should drink more water to 'flush' it from your body however!). Your hospital should give you guidelines on quarantine. Marilyn > Dear Group, Nick, Ian, > > For those of you who have had 29.9 mCi, does it make you sick? > What can I expect? Guest guest
Debbi, I had my 29.9 in the morning and was fine until around lunchtime. I got very weak and looked " ashen " . Tried to take a nap - I felt hot, sort of feverish, for about an hour, then I got ice cold and didn't thaw out for a couple of months! Seriously, my feet stayed wrapped in a heating pad for months. I generally felt better the day after the treatment otherwise - got my appetite back, etc. The first day was rough for me. BTW, mine wasn't a psychological reaction at all. I felt good going hypo and thought, " no problem - I'll breeze through RAI, too " I guess some just react differently. Hopefully, you'll be one of those that don't have a problem. Guest guest
Debbi, I had 150 mCi and narry a flutter in my stomach.. I'm not sure the size of the dose can be correlated to being sick or not. Being ill is less common than not being ill. (hcc) For more information regarding thyroid cancer visit www.thyca.org. Guest guest
Debbi, When I received 30mCi the nuclear med doc told me that I couldn't be within 7ft for 5hrs (acculmative) with any one person over 2 days. I was also told in my instructions to drink a rediculous amt of water which probably wasn't necessary(according to all the posts). I did feel a little sick after but I do have a extremely weak stomach. I was also having the hypo headaches and that could have contributed to the nausea along with the stress. I was also instructed to take a laxative or fleets enema(yuk). Hope everything goes well for you. Guest guest
Debbi, I had 100 mci's and I wasn't sick at all. About 3 weeks after, I felt a little tired and my salivery glands swelled up intermittantly. The worst part of RAI(for me) was mental. All the hoopla that surrounds the storing, transporting and paperwork associated with a radioactive substance can be very intimidating. It is difficult to swallow the pill or liquid after witnessing it and signing many, many papers about the extreme precautionary measure you must take around other people. Also hard to have someone put a geiger counter on your stomach! Doesn't hurt but it's a little like something out of an old science fiction movie. Maybe your hospital has a health physics specialist like mine did that will explain more about what to expect. The day before, I met with this person, who explained all the precautions and anwered my questions. She also carried a 24 hour beeper so you could call anytime something was bothering you and ask any question before during or after. Debbi 29.9 mCi?
