Your condition sounds like mine.. My fibroids are on the outside of the

uterus...the doctor said they are rather big. I don't have any other

symptoms like excessive bleeding, or spotting between periods. I just have

pressure on my bladder. However, I am on Lupron. As a matter of fact, I had

my second shot today. I will have one more and then the doctor is going to

examine me again three weeks after the 3rd shot. I will then see the stages

of the fibroids (if they have gotten smaller because of the shot). After

that, we will schedule the surgery.

So far so good on the Lupron...I have only had hot flashes....they aren't

that unbearable but they do come often. I went to the doctor yesterday and

told him that I didn't want to take any medicine to counteract the hot

flashes. I don't want to be on too much hormone medication. They aren't

that bad where I can't stand them. I will keep you posted.

,

I don't think there is much of a definitive answer for your case,

just a weighing of options and risks and then your decision.

I think there are two things I would consider- 1) Will the fibroids

grow and how will that impact future treatment or success. 2) Do you

want to treat your symptoms.

I had UAE over a year ago for a huge subserosal fibroid (located on

the outer portion of my uterus). I wish I had done the UAE while the

fibroid was smaller because typically UAE shrinks the fibroid on

average of 50-80%, so the smaller you start with the better the end

result. You may want to consider how you will monitor the size if

you decide to wait.

For me, the symptoms you describe are substantial, if I had bladder

and digestive disturbance I would treat it.

I really appreciated the gyn I saw at the time of my treatment as he

was not an alarmist. I needed relief of my symptoms, as a girlfriend

says regarding bloating- " I was taking on so much water I felt like

the titanic " (my apologies all). Once I knew I was going to do

something I asked the doctor how do I choose what to do? He told me

to weigh the risks of each procedure.

Ultimately I selected UAE because I wasn't in the mood for surgery.

That's my two cents.

Good Luck,

Hey i am just like you. I wa so scared but everything will turn out ok.

I had never had any surgery either, but it was ok. You'll be alright, i

know that it is easier said than done but try to stay calm and focused

and research about the myo and it mght help calm you a little.
